I found I have a water leak on the floor of the cabin and under the steps into the cabin. I have been searching here and finding various causes. The cause of mine does not seem to fit the typical cabin area sump pump failure (don't think I have a cabin area sump) nor do I see any indication to suggest that it traveled under the windshield or through a loose bow rail screw.

Does anyone know where to get a diagram of a 2000 280SS so I can figure out what is under there and try to figure out how to stop future leaks?

Thanks

It will be in your manual. If you don't have it, you can download one from SR's site.

Could easily be a port window, including the one in the head.

Thanks. I don't have a head port window but the cabin does but I don't see any water anywhere around the port windows, although I know that water can take some crazy paths... My manual didn't include anything that shows for instance plumbing diagrams... I am trying to figure out what is aft of the cabin steps in areas that you can't see. This happened with the bimini cockpit covers on in heavy rains

Yeah, can definitely take crazy paths. If it came in through the port lights, the walls would dry very quickly and be hard to tell that's where it came from until it happened enough to see dirt stains or mildew.

You should have a "supplement" manual (again, check on SR if you don't) - it will show water line routing, electrical diagrams, accessory location, etc.

Did you have the bimini top up or the cockpit cover?

Do you have a step-down into your cabin? Does it lift up to expose a garbage can? That's usually where Sea Ray puts the pump, but I'm not sure on your model.

Could it have come in through the deck hatch?

Does your boat have a direct drain in the floor to the bilge area?

I will check the SR site more closely. Actually it was the cockpit cover, not the bimini top that was on at the time. The wettest part of the boat was teh cabin carpet under the garbage pail residing below the lift up top step-down into the cabin. There is not a pump visible there and I have never heard it (if it would be recessed out of sight aft of the stepdown) so I am guessing no pump on my CC model unless it hasn't been working for a long time. Where would the water be coming from that this pump addresses? I will see if the SR site lends any assistance in this regard.

In terms of the deck hatch, the hatch has a working drain (I think it drains out the side of the hull) but it was also wet there on the deck carpet laying on top of the deck hatch. Water would have had to come down through the cockpit cover pole hole (pole was inserted) and it was only wet in the immediate area surrounding the pole- not wet between the pole and step down, so I am "guessing" not there as point of entry to cabin but can't be sure. it was one heck of a rain.

I am not aware of any floor drain (deck?) going into the bilge. I do not believe that it has one

Sorry, by deck hatch I meant the one above your head when you're sleeping.

The floor drain would be visible if you stick your head down under the garbage can area. What you'd be looking for is a hole about the same size as your garboard drain. It would be on the lowest part of the garbage can area (an inch above the keel, give or take), furthest aft - basically the wall between your cabin and the bilge. This wall may not have a thru-drain in it - I'm not sure.

I'm not positive on your model, but typically things like the head floor drain and maybe the cabin sink would drain into the sump pump to then be pumped overboard through a thru-hull.

Look on SR's site under customer support: http://searay.com/Page.aspx/pageId/10411/Owners-Manuals.aspx

Do you have a windshield wiper? That's another area.

On this model and generation, no visible floor drain and I think, all drains except head and bilge use gravity to drain through various thru-hulls. The head floor drain is low, I will check to see how that drains. I also have a wiper so I will check that as well as the caulking around the deck hatch. Thanks!!

This happened to ours. Check the quick connect fitting for your bathroom sink/shower. The quick connect is accessed by removing the panel outside of the bathroom by the berth. The quick connect itself may not be leaking but the threads connecting the connect to the water supply line may have simply become loose over the years and needs to be screwed back on tight. Because the water system is pressurized, it will make even a small leak put out a great deal of water. You are correct about access under the step. All that is there is a trash can.

I had the the same problem on my 240 it turned out to be the water fill on the bow had to be re-bedded.

Excellent. I will check these ideas out. I am getting to ready to commission it for Spring. I am leaning towards an internal leak since we have been continuing to get an inordinate amount of rain for the past couple of months and the cabin has remained bone dry. Thanks!
