So I am replacing my ugly cabin steps with some nice teak ones made by Goodale Marine. Who would have thought that on top of having the original steps screwed down, they would have glued them as well. Now this is going to be fun to get off...

Get one of these at Harbor Freight and get the attachment that cuts things.

All you have to do is turn it on and let the cutter slide beneath the wood. You'll be surprised at how fast it gets the wood and glue unstuck from the step.

I love that tool. I have been using it to remove old Formica laminate along with a heat gun. Works awesome. And it costs like $30 bucks or something.

It's the Dremel version (in the left hand side of the picture), but used it for this project... yours should be a little easier :smt001

Greg, how thick are the steps your getting from Goodale marine? I used him for my 300DA

When did Sea Ray start using radiators for heating? Isn't that where the Honda genny should sit?

It's an old Grady, not a Sea Ray - so it's OK. It was my winter project last year - restoring an old Grady Offshore (Weekender). I rebuilt some of the bulkheads, rebuilt the floor, rebuilt the large opening that used to be for a stern drive (it's now an outboard), built a new floor hatch from scratch. The boat was outside so I shrink-wrapped it like a big box, nice and high like camper canvas - added some shoplights, the heater and had some fun!

No, the genny goes on the swim platform, but the exhaust is routed there. You just can't see that part. I think the oil heater is there because it is ignition proof like a BoatSafe Heater...

Brian, they a little over 1 inch. About the same size as original steps without the little carpet trim piece on the bottom. I like how he did the ones you had. Looks like a drop edge around them.
