We have a 2002 Sea Ray weekender 225. When we got it there was a key broke off in the cabin door so we couldn’t lock it. The guy that winterized it for us got that key out and everything has been fine. We go this weekend and the door seems like it’s locked. We tried everything but couldn’t get into the cabin. We tried a 900 series key from another sea ray to see if that would work and nothing. Any ideas of how to proceed next?

It's a very simple lock. Locksmith should have little trouble getting it open.

You can also check with a local mechanic or marina. Most of these locks use common set of keys and many of these places have a full set for when a client forgets/loses a key. Once you know the key number go and reorder a bunch of copies.

Ours has a screw on the outside that you take out and it lets you just open the latch (how’s that for secure?) maybe yours has something similar?

Do you still have both pieces of the key? If so you can have the locksmith cut another by lining them up in a manual key cutting machine and cutting a new one for you. If the lock is a regular barrel lock the blanks are really common. I have cut thousands of keys some of them broken in the 46 years in the hardware business. Hope this helps.
If your lockset has a screw on the outside then it can be easily removed and your cabin accessed by anyone, flip it around if you can.
FYI locksmiths charge about $40.00 an hour.
