Anyone have a suggestion as to how to paint the interior walls on my '88 300DA? The wall fabric feels like vinyl with foam backing. I have the light green walls and want them gone. Any help is appreciated.

I think that's more like recovering rather than painting...I might be wrong though.

We did the walls on our 28 footer with what is called Head Liner. Sort of like carpet but no pile. Our 38 footer needs doing but shutter at what it will cost. Saw one boat that put carpet on the walls. Looked like HECK. Maybe some one has put a thin wood pannel on the walls. Hope you get a solution as there are a lot of us with old boats that need updating.

Possibley a vinyl paint that can be used on flexible surfaces.

There are a number of places to get vinyl paint, try an automotive paint supplier first. I re-dyed the seats in a few of my cars in the past and it works very well. It soaks into the vinyl and remains flexable. I did a set of Mustang seats and they held up well for years, so I'd think it would work fine on those upholstered panels.

I can get you the name of a supplier of vinyll and leather dyes,i buy from them for automotive interior repairs and have repaired and dyed a few boat seats for friends.I use water based dyes with a catalyst.Key is getting it clean first with tri-clean from the same supplier. It is sprayable and i use either a airbrush or a mouth sprayer,a small hvlp touch up auto paint gun would be good for that much area i think, cheap at harbor freight, just work fast and clean it well between coats.I custom mix to match colors but you can get them pre mixed also.I dont have info here but at work, think its called finishline, located in washington state.

Its funny seeing the exact same year, model and ugly green colored interior..
How long have you had her and what have you done to it? Maybe we can compare notes!

Mine is off white, the other 88 300WE in my marina has that same light green vinyl.

Google SEM Paints. They have several vinyl paints and have a Marine product line as well. I've used them in the past and as stated below the key is get the surface clean first.

Are the SEM paints all spray? I'm looking for something I can roll or brush on.

Our '89 230 had similar "teal" colored upholstery in the cuddy. Admiral viewed it as "dated" at first and put it on the "con" side of the list. We bought the boat anyway and addressed the problem by changing the finish on the teak to a lighter, more natural look, and changing the fixtures to brass ones from WM. It changed the whole look of the interior. Admittedly, our little 230 project would be infinitesimal in comparison to yours, but prepping, masking, rolling, and brushing paint onto vinyl may be more laborious that sanding down the teak and refinishing it in a lighter color????? Maybe, ya think? I sanded the teak down to it's original color and gave it 3 coats of teak oil. Just other food for thought. I still think the teal and blue colors are very classy when combined with real, natural looking wood.
