I would like to store some heavy spare parts and props (in boxes) in the compartment under the cabin floor. However, I am afraid of damaging the shower sump near the back. I was thinking of putting one of those grippy rubber shelf liners on the bottom, and placing a fender just in front of the sump. Does that sound sufficient, or would I have to install some kind of baffle for more protection. Any other ideas?

Ron,
I think if u hit some snott that sump is going to fracture if the props or any bracing material make contact.... Spare wheel location is always a problem

That is just too much storage space to not use.

Heck, looking at how big it appears to be I’d be tempted to convert it into a birth for a child.

The shower sump in our 280 Sundancer is beneath the trash can under the step. I think if you tried real hard you could add a paper clip to what I have stored down there. For sure not two paper clips thought.

Pack it full then noting can move.

How about making a partition out of starboard, with drain channels so that it does not trap water. you could screw and bond 2 strips on either side and then slide the starboard in or out like a drawer divider as needed.

just a though.

One concern I would have is water damage. Our sump pump quit working once and we did notice it until the carpet was wet. For that reason I do not store anything in that compartment.

I am with Woody ("I am with Woody", that just sounds bad!) on this one, put something substantial between the sump box and your items, like a 1+" wood/plastic divider.

That was my first thought.

Thanks, guys. The things I mentioned are not subject to water damage, but are heavy enough to cause damage to the sump box. I have thought of a partition but I don't want to drill any holes down there. Woody's idea about a box has me thinking of a protective frame as a minimum. I could build it with longerons that reach to the back of the compartment. Then I could just slip it in without attaching it to the hull. It won't be an overnight project, but I might make start with some cardboard templates to check out the idea.

I was thinking this exact same thing.
