I have a 2005 260AD which only had 90 hours on it when it was purchased last week. Since then, we have about 10 hours of cruising under our belt. By simply using the cabin door, it is now opening very easily. Smooth as silk. When we first bought the boat, the Admiral could barely close it. Now its very easy. However, I have already bent 2 keys by opening it too fast. Warning, don't leave the key in the lock, you will for sure to bend it as the door opens all the way..

Who elso has bent a key off besides me? :smt021

Are you talking about the cabin door lock?

My door stops just short of the spot where a key would get bent if left in the door. Maybe you are missing a stop. :smt017

Cabin Door Lock

Yes, sorry, this post was moved from the "Hard to Open Cabin Door Thread".

My door will open just past the key causing it to shear off in the lock... I'll have to take a look about getting to the door stop....

I've attached the parts blow up. Why do I get the gut feeling this is going to be a royal pain....

If you remove the gauge cluster, just some screws, you can reach down and easily access the area behind the dash where the door stop is located.

Or try the fuse access door on the lower part of the helm panel.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go this weekend. I am curious to see if it has anything to do with the door magically becoming easier to open. Hopefully, I'll be able to see down in there and report back...

BTW - Replace the bent key. Don't just straighten it and keep using it. You do not want it to snap off in the lock some day. Dealers should carry spares.

An FYI. My doorstop is in place. Seems that the 2005 door does open past the key unlike the 2006. Sounds like something the re-designed in 06 for good reason...

Both of my boats are/were such that the key could be bent.

That stop is easily accessible. Maybe you can reposition it a few inches to prevent that from happening again...which it will.
