The lock on my cabin door comes out every time you pull the key out. It will lock and unlock, but the piece the key goes in seems to just come out. I thought about bringing the whole lock to a locksmith, but can't figure out how to replace it.

Any thoughts on either how to fix it or how to remove it?

Thanks,
MJK

Just fly Todd out! He'll fix it for you! You could just replace the boat?

is that mobella lock with key number 8xx?
if so there is only one screw holding it in place

Yes Confirm your key says Mobella, then go to Southco.com and search for that model.
PM me if you need more help. Like Sundancer say's I'm a locksmith, so I can help walk you through it.

Thanks for all the help. I tried that one screw, but it wouldn't budge. I guess all the goop to seal it in was holding tight. I looked up in the SeaRay parts guide and it appears to be a mobella 762872. I did some searching and found them on fpmarine for $59. I have to just verify it before I order anything.

Is there any way to fix the lock? Do you think a good locksmith would be able to repair it?

Thanks again!

Take some pictures of it and PM Me with your e-mail address. I can either fix it or help you figure out what to do.

I'll try and get a pic this weekend. I may try and fix/replace it over the winter.

Thanks,
MJK

You can go here and ID one that you have too.

More than likely the retainer(a little brass wafer) on the cylinder core either lost it's spring, stayed compressed allowing the core to pop out or the pot metal holding the retainer cracked.

remove screw and push the pin out
the easiest way is to partially unscrew the screw and tap it with small hammer and once pin is loose unscrew it completely, remove pin and remove lock

The retainers' broken. Replace the lock. It may be able to be repaired but it won't be worth it for the cost of a new one.

Yeah, like I said. The new one will do you well and you won't have to wait for the old one to fail again.

I installed the new lock today as well as fixed the clasp on the undersink door in the bathroom. The lock I purchased from Flounder was a perfect fit. They even matched up the lock to the keys I already have, so I don't need to get any more made.

Thank you everyone for your help with this!
