Weird one. Keys works the lock from the outside, no problem.
However
When inside, the sliding red button (lock) will not move at all, unless the key (outside) is in the locked position.
Any ideas? Do I have the wrong key?
Thanks.
Jim

Unknown to me, until a year ago, the key in the outside lock has 3-positions. Locked, unlocked-cannot work from inside, and unlocked-can work from the inside. Cannot work from the inside keeps kids from locking themselves in. I cannot remember the 3-different positions of the lock/key, but play with it and you will figure it out.

Yours sounds just just like mine.

Your lock is not working from the inside when the key slot is in the vertical possition. For your lock to work from the inside it needs to be unlocked and in the horizontal possition before you pull the key out! ...... good luck

What those guys said ^^^

Move the key slowly from the outside you will feel 2 very distinct clicks (detents) The first one from the fully unlocked (vertical) position will allow you to lock from the inside but will be open both ways if no other action is taken. The second detent locks the door fully (i.e. leaving the boat for the day). That is why I always try to open the door whenever anyone locks it from the outside (myself included), just to make sure it's actually locked.

As if any of that matters since there is like 12 total different keys for these things! Thats why I always use a cable lock when I leave the boat for an extended time.

Hope I'm not out of line. If the '02 lock and key set is the same as the 98/99, the keys are the same as the old (pre barrel lock) Harley Davidson saddle bag keys. I don't know what the local marine places are charging, but a true lock smith place has them for about $5 cut to fit......Oh yeah.....Do NOT slide the door open with the key in the lock. The key won't stop the door. "F" bombs will follow..

Yea my 05 260 suffered from the open door - break key off - curse up a blue streak problem as well. Thankfully, the 330 has a nice little notch out where they key will slide past/behind the helm station when opening the door all the way.

As to the keys, I'm really not sure when or how often the locks are changed by manufacturers but my 05 260, my current 09 330, my buddy's 08 350, and my other buddy's 09 Monterey 340 ALL HAD THE SAME KEY!!! I think that Mobella has the corner on the boat lock market and they make like 10 or 15 different locks. FP sells them for under 10 bucks... just need the number. And that is why I put the cable lock on my door whenever I leave the boat for any length of time.

Man this site is great....I simply thought my lock had given up the ghost from inside the cabin. I never thought to even ask this question.

Nice!!! I guess mine isn't broken after all.

MyMy door, hank fully,stops1/4" from smashing the key

lol..... facepalm!! i was hoping this thread would be about replacing the door lock, and finding a replacement for cheap/reasonable price...... seeing as mine doesn't lock from the inside..... well this changes everything.... thx for saving me $$$ as always!
