I just purchased a boat with a Raymarine chart plotter that uses C-Map NT chips. I downloaded the free Raymarine RNS software that allows route planning. In order to get the chip data on my computer I understand I must purchase a C map chip reader. Can this reader be purchase at Best Buy or similar store or must I get it from Raymarine. After I get the USB reader will the RNS software allow me to store routes and waypoints created in my computer to the chip that can be used on my chartplotter.
Thanks Guys,
Tim

I use Navionics but found the same issue...I had to buy a Navionics reader for my PC. Now the really hard part: I found that trying to store waypoints and routes using Raytech DID NOT WORK unless I ran Raytech as an administrator on Windows Vista (right click on it, and select "run as administrator"). Everything would appear to work fine, but when I got to the boat...there were no waypoints to transfer. I suspect the same will be true with C map.

Good luck...in the end, I am able to plan my cruises from the comfort of my living room and transfer all the data when I get to the boat on Friday night. Very cool!

I gather after you ran the software as administrator you were then able to transfer the routes and way points to your chart plotter, correct? I have vista too.

Did you have to buy the card reader from Navionics?

I am boatless now, and have the Navionics Multi-Card Reader that I purchased and used on my Raymarine C80 system. I purchased it from Jim, the forum owner about 2 years ago. It was great for storing my routes and transferring them to the C80.

As I no longer use it, you can have it for $35 shipped and insured (USPS in the USA). Just send me a Private Message if you are interested. It comes with the USB cable and I have no documentation for it.

Good luck!!

Sam...

That's a good deal, if I did not have mine already I would jump on that!

Back to the C Map question you will have to buy the card reader from C-Map or you can get it on Ebay. You can transfer routes using the blank card that comes with the reader. You can also hock your computer directly to the electronics via NMEA 0183

I've got a C-Map USB card reader I no longer need with both a blank chip and an NT+ wide chart chip (East Coast Cape May to Winyah Bay). The chart chip could be used to join Club Jeppeson, for $89 they provide an updated chip of your area. PM me if interested. Whichever way you get your reader, I believe there is a special USB driver you will need to find and install to enable it to work. It used to be available someshere on the Raymarine site.
