Can't seem to pick up any satellites...
My GPS antena/receiver is flashing steady red.
I replaced the button battery in it. Still didn't help.

I took out card, reset to factory, and still can't get it to work.

Any suggestions???

Trying pulling the fuse going to the GPS receiver. Unless you have already installed a power switch, it is always powered, even when the C80 is off. Over time it locks up due to never being cycled. This was the remedy that Raymarine gave me when I had the same issue.

I ended up installing a separate power switch for the Raystar.

This of course assumes you have the standard Raymarine equipment......

I tried to find the fuse. No luck.
Any advice on location?
Thanks!

darn it. You did pull the fuse to the Raystar and not to the C-80, right? (Just making sure)

It was just labeled "GPS".
Everything else was labeled "accessory".

When I pulled the fuse, the chart plotter did go off.

You might just try pulling all of them one at a time, just to be sure.
Or try turning off your battery switches then back on again. All that helm electronics should go through the battery switch. It did on my 300DA and cycling the battery switch cleared out my older Raystar120 when it would lock up from the same problem fergie mentioned.

Chances are your GPS antenna (I'm guessing Raystar 120) has reached the end of its life. See if you can find Raystar 125. It's not the newest model, but an easy plug-and-play swap. Otherwise, just go for the latest and greatest GPS antenna model.

On a Raystar 120 doesn't it have a battery on the circuit board? Someone else had this problem he just had to replace the battery.

Actually, if it has a light on it, which I think he said it did, it is a 125, not a 120. But that is splitting hairs. I can say that my boat, a year older than his, has the 125. At any rate, it is very possible that if cutting the power to it doesn't fix it, it needs to be replaced.

Yes, you're right, Scott. It's been way too long since I replaced RS120 on my 320DA. I didn't recall if it had the light, but now that you've mentioned and from what the RM tech note indicates, it doesn't. I also had to replace RS125 on my 420DB and this time I went with RS130.

The swap wasn't as simple as RS125 instead of RS120, where the SeaTalk wire is exactly the same. The RS130 is also designed for NMEA2000, thus it has different wiring and required power to the block. Obviously, it's not a big deal, but something to be expected prior the installation.

In any event, it sounds like OP has bad GPS and if basic troubleshooting steps didn't fix it, it's time to replace. However, before spending money, I would also give RM a quick call to see if they can provide other other diagnostic ideas.

Something to consider...

How is your VHF? If its time for an upgrade, there are VHF's with the GPS built into them.
If your current VHF doesnt have DSC and MMSI might be a good thing to do.
Just make the NMEA connection over to the C 80 and your off....

If my Raystar craps out, thats the way I'm going.

I'm a huge fan of redundancy. GPS antenna is one of the primary items I concider to have a backup for. In fact my helm is fully redundant. 2 dedicated GPS antennas, 2 MFDs, 2 VHF radios with dedicated antenna, etc....

It's a nice idea using GPS input from a VHF (that's equipped with it), but I would only do this connection for a case of failover, not for primary source of GPS.

I'm a huge fan of redundancy. ...

Me too! I have a QC engineering background (mental defect)
I'd argue a brand new GPS in the VHF as long as it can see the sky is better than my 20 year old Raystar

I have a handheld GPS and VHF on board as well, along with paper charts in case it all goes bad!

Ive got a working, used raystar 125 if anyone needs it - my c-70 crapped out again and this time I replaced it with a garmin......I originally had a 120 too - when it failed a buddy of mine had just upgraded his system and had the 125 just lying around. I also have a raydome if anyone needs it.

I'd love to have the raystar125. What size radome? 2.2kw or 4kw?

Ok triple Ds - let me know if you need it - if not, im heading down to ft lauderdale from ma in a couple weeks and I could bring the stuff with me zz

Red means dead on the Raystar 125. The battery has no effect on the operation besides saving the last known position so it doesn't take forever to get initial power on fix.
