I took this pic of the connections by my hot water tank. Question is are these the 2 hoses that need to connect to by pass the hot water tank (red to the blue)

I don't think so. There should be one hose on top Cold and one on the bottom for Hot.Thats how mine is set up. :smt001

Ya i'm totaly confused because the blue runs trough the other side then connects to the tank in the back at a higher spot. Not sure how to do it at all. Also i dont understand how the hoses disconnect.

Not sure what you mean by "runs through the other side." Most likely it's running to the back of the tank and up to the pump. Follow the lines in the pic. If the blue goes to the water pump outlet and the red goes to your faucets, then all you have to do is connect those two together. Push the gray tab in towards the fitting while pulling out the hose. On the other one do the same but pull the white connector off the bronze fitting, leaving the hose on. A slight bend and you should be able to connect the two together without using a bypass kit.

Another word of advice on the two black hoses going into the heat exchanger, coming from the engine. DJ, this doesn't apply to you as you're in MI. If anyone's boat is raw water-cooled in salt water, you should take these off and flush the fittings well. Those are common corrosion points. And you won't know it failed until the high water bilge alarm goes off.

Can't see exactly from your photo and not sure about the brass valve/connection on the red hot water hose. But is that a bypass already???? Could it be as easy as just opening or closing the black knob and then draining the hot water tank by opening the drain and the pressure value?

As your pictures shows you attach the blue hose to the red hose, the brass valve is the anti scalding valve ment to prevent too hot water exiting the hot water heater out to the faucets. I personaly do not bypass the hot water heater, I just drain the water and then just let it fill till I get solid antifreeze out all the faucets (hot) then drain excess from tank. I end up puting in an extra 6 gals ($20+/-) to fill the hot water heater just so I don't have to play with those fittings...
