this will be my first sea ray purchase, yet i cannot find any info or specs on 84 weeekender. it is in good condition with a 260 mercruiser in it. i wanted to be able to go offshore for the weekends and fish and get out of the sun. You guys have any thoughts/ recomendations/ worries on this craft? thanks for any info

its 23' from what i can find in the sea ray archives it looks just like the 1985 srv230

I run NADA price on it and come up with $5,700 with all the additions i can think of that it has. This boat is pretty basic bare boned, no gps, depth finder or cb radio. It does have a small stereo in it. It doesnt even have an anchor and i guess i would have to add the hardware to the pulpit to install one?the fridge is just a box to put a block of ice in (not powered) and there is no air conditioner or shore power, (no generator). I dont mind adding in these things, in fact i enjoy it but the guy is saying it is worth $9200 and i dont want to spend another 3k making it how i want and have an overpriced old boat. Also the trailer has no title and was for another boat so i would have to get a lost tiltle or something to register it.

Guess i'm just looking for some help on making a descio on buying it and if i offer the guy 6k cash would i be insulting him.

thanks for any input

I just bought a 1985 weekender here in the Denver area. I paid $7500.00 for it. The boat is in great shape, had stove, sink, electric refrig spot light bathroom, radio, ship to shore radio, three props down rigger pole holders and all the canvas.

Houston....

There are a dozons of these available. 1984-1986. Full of options that you say the one you are looking at dosent have. Power, canvas, fridge, TV, microwave, dual batteries. The list goes on.

1. Check out boats like this one

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1984/Sea-Ray-Sundancer-245-1758166/Austin/TX/United-States

and show this listing to the seller. I doubt his boat will bring him $9k. Or $9300 or whatever he is quoting you.

2 As far as the actual year, the hull ID will answer that question.

3.You mentioned "off shore". Im going to suggest you search some of the threads on this site. Depending on what you mean by off shore, this may not be the best idea.

Good luck with your search.

Sounds like your going the same route I am. Sometimes the only way to have a decent boat on a modest budjet is to build one.
As far as the untitled trailer, most states have a way to get a "Homebuilt" trailer title. Just show reciept of materials and get an inspection. Then they send you a new VIN No.

Good luck.

Great info MWPH

by offshore i mean go out 30 miles for the weekend and come back in.. not really a big deal around here we usually do it with a 20 foot fishing boat... anyway thanks for the link

Dont buy it. There are a lot better deals out there, and the little projects that you think you can do to make it the way you want cost more than expected every time. I bought the same boat last year, a 23' weekender for 6,000. It was in pristine condition, all the vinyl was in great condition, everything worked, has shore power (no gen.) spotlight, camper canvas, mooring cover, trailer in good shape, mant. records, depth sounder, no gps. Where do you live? Maybe you are in a lot better selling market, but around here what you are describing is a crappy deal. If you live around here, I could even show you some better boats for less dough.

oh - I sold the same boat for 6k also last fall. We loved cruising so much better than daytripping with our bowrider we got a bigger one right away.

oh i would still need electronics like depth/ fish finder and gps (even though i have a magellan xl) and some sea to land radio... any suggestions on good quality stuff on tighter budget would be appreciated... thanks again guys hopefully soon i'll be a sea ray cruiser owner also

For a cheaper chartplotter you could get one that doubles as a navigation unit for your car. That could in a sense cut the cost in half, if you want one for the car anyways. Garmin makes two of 'em. Most entry level depth finders are about 100 if you can get it on sale from west marine or somethin. You would prob. be around 5 to 6 hundred by the time the two are installed.

By the way, the sundancer is nice, you get a mid berth in the cabin, right?
