As I was readying to put the 190 away for the winter, I noticed that the one of the nuts that attach the fitting for the top of the hydraulic lift arm to the sunpad was loose. I attempted to tighten it down just a hair, and apparently the stud was ready to go because after an 1/8th of a turn, the nut and stud sheared off, leaving me with a little nub of steel sticking out from the underbelly of the sunpad.......

Obviously, I would like to repair this, but I can't for the life of me figure out how these studs are installed into the small steel sleeve that is pressed(?) into the fibreboard on the bottom of the sunpad. There's not enough left of the stud to grab, and unless you guys have a trick for me, I fear that I may need to take the boat into a dealer to have the upholstery removed and the stud replaced.

Considering how undersized the studs are in relation to force applied by the hydraulic arms, someone MUST have had a simliar failure in the past. Here are the pics:

This has me worried about my boat also since it's the same setup. What year is your boat?

It's a 1999 190 Signature.

Yeah, the thickness of the studs is way undersized IMHO. I'm surprised no one has chimed in. I find it really hard to believe that I'm the first Sea Ray owner to experience this......

Hey SigSeaRay:

A lot of folks with thoughts on your issue but donot have the same boat will hold back in hopes a kindred owner will stop by and provide owner to owner help.

I don't have your boat but have had similar issues with boats and might have reasonable solitions IF I could see the bigger issue that has you daunted from just popping off the upolstery, replacing the studs with hefty hardware and re installing the pad and cover.

Why not provide more photos of the upolstery edges, welting and top, side and bottom corner views... Photos is what is required to get decent feedback.

you need to remove some staples, vinyl and foam to access machine screws:10-32 or 1/4-20 installed into "T-nut"
there is no other way to replace broken screw:(
you will need good staple gun (and use short staples:1/4" or 3/8") to shoot staples into plastic seat bottom (I don't think that you have plywood in your cushion)
