Gents,

So I got about 5 hours on my boat now and loving it. However yesterday my speedo got stuck at about 40mph. I noticed after we were parked it was still at 40 and after a few hours it started to come down to about 30. When I got home I flushed the engine and washed the boat and it still was up. This morning it was down to about 10 mph. Anyone know what the issue is? I didn't see anything in the pickup.

Remove tube behind speedo gauge and blow the hose with compressed air

Man! There's nothing worse than when a guy's speedo breaks. I hope Gary doesn't have a picture of that to post. On the other hand, broken ladies speedos....

You got something in the speedo inlet hole and it needs to be blown out. There's a quick disconnect fitting in your outdrive that's easy to get to, pull it apart, and blow air through it. It's happened to mine four times now and it's an easy fix. It's not a warranty problem and the dealer will charge you for fixing it. Your "Mercruiser" owners manual will tell you where everything is. It recommends you blow it out yearly regardless of problems. It's not that easy to find but it's in there. Good luck.

Happens to me all of the time.

I use a small thin drill bit and "drill" it out of the hole by hand. Works so far every time.

I now keep one on the boat, so if we are out wakeboarding and it clogs up I can get in the water and take care of it.

That was my first thought; someone caught Mike (TurtleTone) with a wardrobe malfunction
