Had an unusual situation with the gear lube on my Bravo III drive.

Before the season started I completed drained the gear lube. Emptied and cleaned the remote reservoir because of the grayish blue gunk that had accumulated there. I refilled the lube from the bottom, re-installed the drain/vent plugs and then filled the the remote lube reservoir to just above the max fill line. I usually overfill because of the expected burping of the air from the drive and lines.

We got a late start to our season and because of bad water conditions we didn't use the boat much. Probably not much more than 1 hour run time. So Friday I go to start the engine and the alarm is going off. I shut the engine and immediately checked the lube remote reservoir. Sure enough it was low. I filled the reservoir back to the max line and started the engine. No alarm sound so that was the issue.

I proceeded to take the boat for a drive. After a 10 minute idle out of no wake and then a few miles of a run at 3200 rpm I checked the reservoir and found that the bottle was completely full. It wasn't bursting the bottle or overflowing but it was completely full. It stayed this way for the rest of the trip. Next morning the level was back to the full line. Running the next day the level stayed at the full line.

I've have never seen the reservoir level rise before like I did this year. I assumed that there is check valve in the line to prevent back flow.

Is there anything to be concerned with?

thats pretty normal. when gearoil gets hot it expands into the reservoir and gets back to normal level when cold again.

What you describe is typical.
There is no check valve. If you pump oil in from the drive, and close the top vent port, you can fill the reservoir bottle eliminating air pockets.

+1! I did it this way for the first time this spring-top vent plug in when filling. I had to add maybe 1-2ozs to put it back on the line and it has stayed there since.
