Is there a cover available for the lower unit?

Cover? :smt017

Like a tarp for winter storage?

no, I was told that there is a cover for the lower unit to prevent damage from hitting ground in the water.

There are stainless protective plates you can install - but - you really introduce corrosion issues that way. If you damage the Skeg- a good welder can make it - good as new.

Thanks, I guess I will leave it alone, I have a very minor chip on the skeg.

Sand it down, prime it and paint it. Forgetabout it!

When you finally get enough nicks find a aluminum welding shop and take it to them. It will be cheaper than your dealer since that's what they will do any way.

And leave the skeg guard alone. Nice idea, just not for Bravo 3 drives.

I agree with STIHLBOLTS

Reason: The Bravo III has two stainless steel propellers on it already. This is already a lot of stainless steel. Once again, Stainless Steel is a more noble metal then aluminum. This is the reason behind the corrosions issues of the Bravo III.

The solution was to add many more anodes. One big one behind the propeller. More or bigger ones everywhere else. Also, the mercathode was added.

Adding a stainless steel skeg guard adds to the issue of corrosion of the aluminum drive.

If you own a pre 2004 Bravo III please read this:

Skeg damage

We just had our Bravo III skeg repaired after contact with a rock, had it welded and repaired by the dealer. Around $200

Looks like brand new.

p.s. Get a written estimate though, as they jacked me around a little on the price.

Nope :smt021 That would have been a good thing to do. It took a quarter size hunk out of it, and even put a sharp turned edge to a small spot, really nasty considering I was at idle, while turning in between two atons.
