Bravo 3 prop alignment

I just put a prop lock on my B3 and like an idiot I didn't mark the rear prop position in relation to the front prop before I took the rear prop off to check the splines. I did not take the front prop off.

I know that only one blade should be at 12:00 at a time, so I put it back on with a front prop blade at 12:00, and a rear prop blade at 6:00. It looks pretty good, but I was wondering if there is a more accurate way to tell if I am in the EXACT spline I should be.

Make sure the prop's model numbers line up with each other as you put the aft prop on.

I checked the maintenance manual that came with my boat. For prop reinstallation there is no mention about blade or model number orientation....As the props turn, ultimately the model numbers will align during a 360 deg rotation....as long as the thrust hubs are installed correct, and you torqued the front nut at 100 ft lbs, and the rear nut 60 ft lbs. I see no reason that you screwed anything up.

Here's a link to the great prop alignment debate....

You know what? I've never thought of something as simple as that! I've always put the forward prop on "blade up" and the aft prop "blade down". Then I've rotated them to see that the numbers align... Duh! Of course they're going to align!!! :smt101

I pulled the props on my BIII and before I pulled them I aligned the number on the inner prop with the Bravo Three logo on the outer prop. Then simply aligned them when placing them back on the outdrive.

Since they counter rotate there is not proper alignment when putting both back on the spline. They will come into alignment once every rotation. JMHO.............jd
