Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

How many hours on it.. if taken care of you should get over 1000 1200 hrs on it

Well.....we haven't heard from the OP in a while. I'm sure this thread has given him some things to think about. Figuring he spent $20k for the engine and another $10k on the drive he certainly should have got more speed not less for the money.

The basic problem is the amount of weight he is pushing remains unchanged. To make the weight go faster....requires more torque. While I agree that the right drive would help as well as a prop that gets to max rpms......those things are on the margin and are not going to solve speed problem without sacrificing fuel economy.

Additionally......if this is an Emissions Controlled Technology with catalytic convertors........that really limits what you can do to tune it. As I mentioned previously.....Whipple used to make a supercharger for it but that required that they reflash the ECU to make it work. They got a cease and desist from the DOT/EPA threatening them with million dollar fines for touching the 8.2 ECU.

Of course there are ways around it .....you can use aftermarket ECUs but the basic build of the ECT engine was not engineered for torque and horsepower.

I’m not sure if that was directed at me or not but it will be hitting 1000 definitely next weekend if not this one. It’s been very well cared for since 2019/500 hours. Only lightly neglected prior to that.

she’s lost about 150 RPMs and 4 mph of top end in that time
