After storage every winter we end up with a bunch of stagnant water in our "wells" (don't know what else to call them) in the bow of the boat that are underneath the cushions. You know, where you can store things? Cannot determine how its getting in. Any ideas?

It would be helpful if you posted the model of your boat so that we might have a clue as to what you're talking about.

Are these "wells" you're referring to under the V-Berth?

Right right. Sorry. Newbie and not a boat - talker!

1986 Sundancer and yes the V-berth.

Appreciate your input. The maintenance on this boat is done by someone who doesn't use the computer! We're trying to help each other....

Lynn;

There are a number of possibilities:
Are there small portlights in the hullsides next to the berth? Sometimes these can leak, with the water running down the hullside and ending up under the berth.

Anchor locker could also be the source. Check the bulkhead separating the anchor locker from the front of the berth for rot...

Best bet is to be aboard the boat during a heavy rain to try to find the source.

Lynn,
Just an addition to what Tobnpr stated above. The anchor locker should have a drain hole in it that can become clogged. This happened in my old boat with some flaking paint chips. You also may want to check the bow rail mounts for leaks. I had a problem with these in the past. Good Luck! Todd

There is a drain tube that leads from "wells" i.e. storage area under the berth to the aft cabin. Water can flow forward especially if there is water aft at a certain level or if the boat is nearly level. Check the sump pump in the aft cabin. I bet the well is full of water. First time I found water under the forward berth I thought the bow was cracked LOL.
