I've got a Vetus 95kg Bow Thruster, though this probably applies to all Vetus Bow Thrusters. I've had a tough time removing the drive (shear) pin when changing the zinc. Does anyone apply a lubricant/rust preventer when reinstalling the pin?

Caterpillar makes an anti cease product that might help. I believe it is a bronze powder i a carrier. I am sure that you could get it in a automotive store as well.

Thanks, Mr. Salt. I was thinking of Never Seize...probably a similar composition. I was thinking this might be a more widespread probelem so now I'm wondering if something is going on with the drive shaft causing the pin to bind up...I'm going to try and get something in the through hole today to ream it out before installing the new pin.

Cat make a copper anti seize. It works well on all heavy equipment and truck applications. I am not sure how well it works submerged

From what I understand you should use an anti seize w/Teflon. Not the standard Hi Temp Copper anti seize used on the auto field.

The copper does bad things with electrolysis and your zinc's.

BMAC,
Is this a roll pin? If not, how does it stay in place? I've got the same thruster on my 44DB and when we hauled her last month they had the thruster prop off before I got from the back of the boat (looking at props) to the front. Seemed like it was a non-event. Do you have the original prop on the thruster or the one with 5 or 6 blades? Mine is much noisier and seemingly more effective in one direction versus the other. Also, noted some damage to the prop last month. Good luck, Jetlag

I changed the OEM 3 blade prop out when it was damaged. I've now got a 6 blade prop which is infinitely quieter than the original. Getting the prop off was the easy part...I finally got the drive pin out with a little heat to the shaft. The new pin went in with no problem. You have to rotate the shaft by hand so the pin is sitting at 90 and 270, otherwise it slides right out.I applied Permatex Anti Seize with Teflon....not sure if it will hold up to a season submerged....we'll see.
