Bow roller

I have a 1987 268 sundancer. I'm installing a Lewmar v700 windlass on it. It has the wood pulpit on it, I need to put a bow roller on it. What's my best way to go? I have a Danforth (fluke) anchor. I'm going to pull the pulpit off to refinish it, and I would like to make whatever changes then.

Pix would help me. Is there already a roller in the pulpit or is this an upgrade?

After removal, you could bring it and the anchor to West Marine or similar. Most B&M stores are pretty cool about boater eccentricities. Compare different rollers with different drops to see what fits best. Is the anchor large enough?

If if the deck is cored, check for water infiltration. Repair as necessary.

Good luck.

OH yeah....through bolt and backing plates are a must. There is a whole new dynamic in the stress on the pulpit.

This is an upgrade. I rd s hard to take a picture right now. It's covered in shrink wrap, and it's cold as heck outside here in N.W. Ohio. I'm going to inlay a 1/4" stainless plate into the bottom of the pulpit. It shouldn't be noticable. I'm going to mount the windlass under the door for the anchor locker. I'm going to reinforce the hatch with 1/2" aluminum plate and then place a larger aluminum plate across the underside of the deck and attach with stainless carriage bolts. So I've got the main parts, (windlass) covered. I just want to make the bow roller look nice. I could put a pivoting roller at the end of the pulpit, but that would look cheap. I would rather cut a hole in the pulpit, and attach a roller in it that would look good. I know what I would like, I'm just not sure how to install it.

Thanks for all the help!!!!!! I guess that if I don't have the $100,000 boat, I'm ignored.

This will take you right to the page with pictures of the setup I did on my 1987 268 Sundancer. You have to scroll up the page a bit to get to the pictures and description of what I did.

Good clean install. You used the same windlass and roller as I used on my 2006 240da. I had the bow reshaped to fit the roller, then changed out the single bow navigation light to split red and green. I posted my install on the 240 da thread.
Maybe this guy will look at this and get his questions answered....maybe not.

Thanks, people. I've received some really helpful info on this site. Then again, I've received some really hurtful, and rude comments from people. I've decided to get rid of the boat. I don't really want to be associated with an industry that has such rude, and ignorant people. Again, thanks to the really helpful people. It's just not my idea of the type of people I want to be associated with. The mean, and rude comments are part of the reason that this boating industry are dieing. And to the big ******* out there, I'm 55, and I wish that we could meet.

Boating is a lot of work wether it is new or 25 years old. It has to be something you love. Boating is for someone who counts the days off until his boat is splashed and dreads the day his body is too old to do it anymore. If you can just give up like that, you should look try another hobby/ lifestyle.
P..S. THIS IS ME BEING NICE!

Again to those who have said a lot of hurtful things. This is not my place, I'm either selling the boat, or donating to a good cause. I guess that I have been blessed with a job that pays me enough, or the fact that I have invested my money well. This weekend at the Detroit boat show, I purchased a 34' sea ray (new). I also paid cash. So I hope that I don't run into 1 of you rude assholes out there. If so, I hope that we meet. To the rest of you, thank you for all of your help

Very Nicely Said!

I hate to go to a boat supply store (West marine) get the info I need, then buy it on the internet. I'm on a shoestring budget. I would love to spend my money locally, but most things are around half the price.

Doesn't sound like somebody who just paid cash for a new boat... Also, I don't see a 34' in SR's current lineup.
