Well.. I finally read over my "new" policy that my broker presented and saved my $700 a year... but I can't have a dinghy over 40 HP and I can't leave the Chesapeake Bay... I feel like this commercial:

Guess I need to "up" my policy....

That really sucks. It just goes to show that reduced insurance premiums usually end up with some reducation in coverage. My policy went down this year but the give up was travel south of Hatteras between April 1 (end of lay up period) and June1. Not a big trade off. How much is the policy rider going to cost so you can leave the Chesapeake?

You can get a rider for a single or multiple trips outside of your coverage area. Just tell them where and when your trip is planned. I did just that when bringing the 420 home and it was much cheaper than buying an entire year of expanded coverage.

Youze guys don't know nutt'n bout insurance till you own a boat in Florida!

I think it's great Gary is confined to ches. bay this year! Now the rest of us are safe from his wake in our tiny little boats! I think it was the democrats who called his insurance co. to help protect us. That's their job you know.

I had the same discussion with my agent. The policy is rated for Chesapeake Bay and Tributaries, but, there are few limits on the waters I can go. Let me know if you want his contact info-

Bob

Got the renewal on the boat and I am mailing a check today. I read over the policy and do not see any exclusions listed for specific waters. The policy states:

Navigational Limits: The Navigational Limits of this policy include:

the navigable, coastal/tidal waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico between Eastport, Maine and Brownsville, Texas including the Bahamas.

the navigable, coastal/tidal waters of the Pacific Ocean between Juneau, Alaska and Cabo San Quintin, Mexico.

the navigable, inland waters of the continental United States and Canada.

Rick,
They rated your policy for the Ches Bay and tribs., but you can go anywhere that the navigation limits give. This includes Florida and the Bahamas. Please be aware that if you go below Hatteras, NC during hurricane season, you will have a 4% windstorm deductible. Off shore limits are the Bahamas and Bermuda. You are correct in that your policy has no lay-up period.
Hope this answers your questions. If not, get back to me.
Bob

I just called my NBOA agent to clarify my policy, which states “U.S. Inland and Coastal” waters. Apparently I can take my little Whaler anywhere in the country, including up to 100 or so miles offshore, but Gary’s 480 is stuck in his home port. Makes perfect sense to me.

At the beginning of the year, they sent me a new policy for my boat, HUGE discount. I thought, hot damn, I've got more money to spend. then I read the fine print... No tidal waters... HUH? Hello... i'm on the Sound.

Looks like Skip is going to have company on the roads while driving the ol' minivan to Atlantic City next week.

One of my all time favorite movie scenes. :smt043 Thanks for posting it. :smt038

I would have loved to have been the skipper on that boat for the filming. What a blast!

Hey Chad, I'll trade you....you pay my boat insurance and I'll pay yours, then you pay my state income tax and I'll pay yours. Seems fair. Deal?

Gary, I afraid someone on this board has ratted you out to the insurance company. They must know about your safety record. Is there anyone here you may have offended in the past?
