Anyone have suggestions to troubleshoot the sync gauge on my 2001 SD310) with V-drives? Basically at low speeds the gauge appears to work just fine. However when I get above 2500 rpm's the pointer bounces around even if the tachs have the same approximate RPM's.
I have examined the contacts and there is no corrosion. In addition since I believe these are slaved to the tachs I have rotated the "screw" on the back of each tach to clean away any corrosion. I have had a problem in past years with the port engine tach and the screw rotation cleared it up. Right now I cannot visually see any problem with either tach bouncing or misreading. So I am at a loss and do not want to replace gauges as a way to try eliminate the problem when the issues may lie elsewhere. I know this is likely more cosmetic than anything else as this does not actually synch the engines. Instead it's just an indicator
