Just pulled the 390 EC up for bottom paint and waxing (I leave it in all winter). I noticed the bottom has a coating that looks like a powder coating of copper color.
I bought the boat last year from an estate and the PO's could not be reached:smt043. The boat had been in the water for about four years, had it power washed last year September. Bottom wasn't that bad, growth yes, barnacles few.
Question I have was there an additive to the powder coat? What type of bottom paint do you put over this.?
Thanks, any help WBA.

Well, it's definitely not powder coating - unless someone figured out a way to put a boat into a 400* oven...

As far what's on there? I don't know. Best bet might be to have it soda blasted off and start fresh.

I like the Micron stuff (I think it's the "Extra"). An ablative type is what you want as it makes future re-paints MUCH easier.

You probably have a colored hard finish antifouling paint. It may is likely depleated after 4 years in the water. You will need to sand or soda blast and repaint with the same type of paint or a soft ablative paint. If you use ablative paint you should either match the color or remove it all to the gel coat and repaint. The soft ablative paint will wear down and show the color underneith.

I believe that the primer coat is red so that when the bottom paint wears off you can tell that it has. My Sea ray had a red bottom prime paint on it.

I think that the 200E comes in Gray and White. Some folks paint the 200E on one color and then the other so they can guage coverage. Barrier coat is waterproof. Fiberglass gelcoat is not.

Then when putting on the actual bottom paint, the same one color then the other color procedure is followed so that you can see when the paint is wearing off.

I beleive you are right, after getting under, scraping off the barnacle footprints, I do see areas of a lite color. The copper color is a paint that comes off in sanding(you can taste the copper even through the mask). I see no blisters, so the stuff must work very good being she has been in the water all those years.:smt038
Thanks to you all
