Well getting ready for another season and looking to do some bottom painting. I picked up my 2007 185 sport a few years ago and have been trailering it for each use. This year Im going to leave it in the water for a few months here in NJ and want to give it a fresh coat of bottom paint. I have no idea what paint was used in the past but Im guessing ablative the way its slowly wearing off and exposing more and more gelcoat. My plan is to remove anything loose, pressure wash it good and use the West Marine CPP. It seems to have good reviews and goes over most previous applied paints. So anyone see any problems with this plan? At 150bucks a gallon Id prefer to get it right the 1st time. Thanks all!!

I would add to your plan that if there are any rough spots to lightly sand and wipe down.

Do you worry about resale? Most folks wouldn't bottom paint a 185. And once you paint it I assume there's really no going back to virgin gelcoat without substantial investment?

Have you considered investing in a lift or maybe even one of those "floating" setups they have out these days? I bet you have options to get that boat out of the water.

It is already painted.

The paint settles like crazy. The last can I used had so much sludge at the bottom that it felt like the can had a false bottom. Store the can up-side down after you buy it, and have it shaken if you can. If can't have it shaken, use a drill-driven stirrer. A regular stick will not get the job done.

The boat already has bottom paint, so I'm past the point of worrying about resale. It will be at a marina in Tom's river NJ so having a lift or other devices isn't an option. Also having the can shaken is no problem.
