Bottom Paint

If your boat is not kept in the water, how important is keeping up on the bottom paint? The reason I ask is my boat has bottom paint on it from the previous owner. I believe he kept it in the water for a while. I now trailer the boat, and it is in the water for maybe a max of 1 week at a time for a couple of times per summer (aside from weekend trips). The bottom paint is starting to show signs of wear. Other than the ugliness of it, is there any critical reason to re-paint right away?

Is the hull in good shape? If it is ok, I see no need to reapply bottom paint if you are ok with how it looks. An unsmooth bottom will hinder performance some. Frequent unloading/loading of the boat is going to wear the bottom paint anyway.
