Hi everyone My 96 270 dancer has a light blue bottom paint from previous owner and I want to remove and replace with a black or bronze color in the spring. It is still chalky and will come off on your hands if rubbed. What is the procedure to remove the old blue paint and prep for the new color. Any help will be very much appreciated.

If it's chalky it's probably an ablative paint in place. I'd just rough up the blue surface layer with a scrubby and water, let it dry, then apply the new black ablative overtop. If your bronze is VC-17 then ALL of the blue must be removed either by hand sanding or chemical peel products, cleaned, prepped according to VC-17 directions.
Being in the Great Lakes is a real plus for bottom paint since it lasts quite a few years. If you leave the blue as a base, it will be easy to see when your black is starting to wear away.

Thanks Yes we are in Owen Sound on Georgian Bay (fresh and very cold water) lol. I think the wife has persuaded me towards the black bottom paint so your help was very much appreciated. And As per normal just follow the manufactures instruction's. Thanks Again.
