what is the rule of thumb for the next bottom job....years/hours/diver's comments?? thanks

I hate that we are talking this stuff already.

to help answer your question, it is all based on; The type of paint that is currently on the boat, the water conditions, if she is dry docked or floats during the season

My first year with this boat and I painted her with a "Multi Year Ablative" however, I plan on painting her again next year. My critiria for choosing the paint was NOT having to put her in the water immediately. Some paints require you get her in the water in a few days--the paint I used had no time frame, only had to wait 24 hours.

bottom line, I plan on doing it yearly.

Well since you are in the SE as well as I, here is what we do in Central Florida area.

We typically paint approx. every 2 years. Really depends on how much growth and wear we get but we budget 2 years. Sometimes it can be extended and I my diver tells me when he thinks it should be done and schedule paint on the next haulout along with whatever else is needed.

Diver I have dives and cleans bottom every month and sometimes every 3 weeks just depends on growth. This year we had a bad time with growth in the summer and we had to dive more often and clean strainers for AC every 2 weeks otherwise growth was clogging the strainers and locking up AC units.

In fresh water lakes/rivers (Louisiana), our rule of thumb is 3-5 years depending on how good the job was done and the paint used. We usually did it every 3-4 yrs using a hard bottom antifouling paint. This is my first SeaRay and first time using ablative paints. Bought it new in 6/2007. Paint peeled off clean to gelcoat in weeks. SeaRay had to repaint and I had my boatyard do the work properly. Had no problems. UNTIL NOW. Been 34 months and was planning on painting it every 2 yrs with this new type of paint. Thought I had it sold last year so didn't do it then. Moved the boat to Pensacola this March as permanent home and probably taking it off the market. Decided to get bottom job done as we speak and now have had some barnacles build up and yard is saying need to strip it down to gelcoat. Going to see it myself tomorrow as I think that's exagerated, but keep in mind, it's been there since March and NO diver. But we used it about every 2-3 weeks so didn't seem like getting much growth. If we keep it in Florida waters, I'll get a monthly diver and do every 2 yrs. OR just bring it back to Louisiana:smt001
