I've just had the bottom of my 460 Sundancer painted with Pettit Trinidad SR paint. Does anyone have any experience with this paint? I'd like to know if it was good choice (of course it's too late now, but the boat yard painted without consulting me on brand).

I've done a good bit of research on bottom paints before having my boat done - which was not painted when we bought her - lake boat. Rest assured the Trinidad SR is very good albeit expensive coating. As important as the quality of the paint is the quality of the application. Ablative on top of ablative, proper mils, dry-time between coats, etc.

I switched to Trinidad SR about 2 years ago. Got 18 months on the first application. Very happy. Diver scrubs the water line monthly. Hardly any slime, hardly ever any barnacles. Good adhesion. Only exception was running gear, did not adhere well to props and rudders, so barnacles have to be chipped off during the hottest months.

Paid $240 per gallon at West Marine. May be highest out there, but I will stick with it.

I chose to use Sea Hawk Biocide bottom paint. I know the guy who reps the paint and he sent me 4 gallons for free.

Don't know much about it but he said it was almost $300 a gallon, so the price is right.

Anybody know about this paint??

The Pettit Trinidad SR is listed at $92/quart. I paid $770 just for for paint, just one coat. I was told by a shipyard in Newport Beach they would aqply 2 coats and a 3rd coat at the water line. The shipyard in Alameda told me they only recommend 1 coat, a little heavier at the water line, so as not build up paint that will eventually have to be sanded off. Does any of this right to anyone?
