$ bottom paint

Picked up West Marines brand compared to Pettit and and weight difference the two was huge. West Marine paint weighed half as much.

Vc17m didn't go up in price much since last year....surpridingly. Of course I don't need any.
I was told that if you use that paint, to get it asap. Apparently it’s no longer being made.

Just got a gallon of Interlux Bottom Coat from Defender on sale for $108 free ship and a $10 mail in rebate. Not too bad.

Good price. I get 3 years out of a gallon of ablative. I only add to spots that washed away. People slather that stuff on the whole boat every year. Its not necessary.
You are right it is not, bigger pisser is finding a yard that will let you do your own painting.

I found a commercial loading dock that I could rent space for a month and do all my own work. Bottom paint, removed both props and had them tuned, waxed the entire hull, etc.

The cost of the rental was about the same as paying a yard to do it but I had the satisfaction of doing all the work myself and knowing it was done right. The place I rented from (Lampson crane) did the haulout and also moved the jacks when I was ready.

We have a few around here that are ‘green’ marinas. No sanding, painting, etc.
Thank god we still have ‘boatyards’ that may not have a restaurant or pool, but actually allow self maintenance. I am in one.
Yeah we are in one too. We even have provisions for pulling engines if we have to.

Good price, from where? Is Defender the name of the paint maker, or the site that sold the paint?

Never mind about my question, I went to the Defender site. I’m actually looking at water based paint, easier for cleanup for one, and you don’t have to thin it. Pettit Neptune for 135.

Be careful with car that close. We’ve been down that road before.
The truck was much further from the boat when it was lifted out. I pulled it up closer because the back end was filled with supplies, ladders, etc.

BTW, that old pickup is a 1981 Toyota that's been in my wife's family since new. It has a 2.2L engine that still runs well.

I'm right with ya! Had my 340 Amberjack for 17yrs and only spot treated - Figured that the only ones upset about a less than perfect finish would be the fish. That being said, the boat started accumulating algae by later in the season which slowed her down a bit. I'd anchor in 4' and get out my extendable brush and do my best to "clean" the bottom.

Will do the same spot and chine treatment for my smaller current boat but it will be easier to do some powerwashing once or twice a season if algae builds up since it's trailerable. The worst spots for buildup is where the sun hits it anyway - bow and sides just under the water.

Checked the Defender site today. Sale is unfortunately over.

I did exactly this.....I'm doing the whole bottom this year so I got 2 gallons. Last time I did the whole thing was 2017. Really like Interlux BottomKote...

3 bills per gallon of MicronCSC, got on special for 270 at WorstMarine and used my $40 bucks worth of rewards. It works well down here though, no real growth or major touch ups since 07/21. This month was the first time I sanded and painted the whole bottom since then

Interlux MicronCSC works great in FL and NY where salt is highest.

But it isn't any good here in the Chesapeake, to much fresh water. Read an article the other day from Practical Sailor -
https://www.practical-sailor.com/bo...6I34W4UvlSIzU3utKPt_gh0dDmu1JVsRoC3DAQAvD_BwE

Which explains why I had such bad luck with it this past year. I am switching over to Pettit HydroCoat which seems to do well here in the Chesapeake.

Defender has it on sale %11 off, I know big woop, but Pettit also has a $50 rebate per gallon. The two together makes it worth it.
