Has anyone used chemical bottom paint stripper? I'm looking at the West Marine strippers ie. Ready Strip and Aqua Strip.
Do they do what they say? Are they easy to use? I like that they are enviromentally safe.
I have spots on the bottom that the old thick paint is failing and peeling off.

We've used Peel Away with good success.

On a boat that size, you'd be better off saving yourself the aggravation and have the bottom professionally blasted.

Unless you've got nothing else to do for a couple of weeks and you need to get rid of a bottle of Advil...

Is it really that difficult to use? Suppose you have the time and are only doing small sections at a time, is it worth the effort with cleanup and prep? I was considering striping mine first before bottom painting, but since I usually splash the boat in mid March I need to take advantage of any good weather weekends early.

Good point. Another thing is the position you are forced to work in... I bet you all can guess who is usually "delegated" to do this work at our place. :smt001

Google "soda blasting" for your area. At least get a quote - then decide. Don't forget to take into account all the material costs you would use (if you did it yourself) to find your net $$ difference.
