Went to turn on the television in the salon and it would not come on. I then tried the one in the forward stateroom and it will not come on either. I checked all the other outlets on the boat and they all work and all the GFI's have been checked. Does anyone know how to remove the tv's so I can check the outlets behind them and the tv's themselves? Any other suggestions? Thanks

both tv? any recent lightning in your area?
if I'm correct on your boat to remove tv locate two black plastic screw covers on front of tv, remove them and and remove screws.
now slide out tv with bottom wooden base still attached.
if there is any vinyl trim on front of tv, remove it first.
it is usually mounted using "x-mas tree" fasteners

Thanks Boatmailster, I have removed both of these screws but the TV is still snug in place. I will keep trying. No lighting between the last time I used the TV's and when they would not work. We were out in some decent swells in the bay but nothing to bad.

For the salon TV: there are two screws in the under side of the over hang above the stereo. Remove these two screws and the TV will slide out still attached to the wooden base. It may take some wiggling but it will come out.

For the forward stateroom: open the closet located to the left of the TV. The panel on the right side inside this closet has four screws holding it in place. Take these screws out, then VERY CAREFULLY pry this panel loose and then remove it. You will see the TV and the wooden base it is mounted on. There are screws installed thru the top of this base to the shelf underneath it. Remove these screws and slide the TV out.

I replaced my TVs over the winter with flat screens, the salon was easy, the forward stateroom took alot more disassembling before I figured it out.

This happened to me last summer only six months after buying my '98. I removed both TVs as described and they were both dead. The outlets were fine or at least they seemed that way at the time.

I also replaced both TVs with 20" flat panels that were on sale at Circuit City for like $150 a piece. The TVs are not connoisseur quality, but for the boat, they are more than passable. With the money I saved, I bought upconverting DVD players for both TVs. I bolted the TVs to articulating arms which allow them to swing out and pivot for better viewing.

Now, that said, one of the DVDs blew out this week for no apparent reason. The outlets checked out fine and the only thing I can suspect is condensation on the outside of the A/C ducts which press right up against the boxes. The DVD that blew out had never been used after initial testing and was now out of warranty. :smt013

All in all, the work took me the better part of a day, it would have been quicker if I had prepared with the right tools. ('Nuff said.) But it looks factory.

Both TV's? I'm with Rob. I know it sounds basic, so please don't be upset, but how about a common switch on the electrical panel - Accessory? Outlets? How about a common GFCI - In the Lav? Aft Cabin?

Once you do get one TV out, immediately check its outlet for power. My guess would be a big zero - no power. I would seriously run with that consideration in mind. If they did in fact both die, good timing! It's the right time to upgrade to HDTV!

We had an electrical gremlin last year at our dock. Reverse polarity light came on and then NO tv's, or microwave. Took out all the stuff and put them on a Surge line electrical duhicky. Tv etal were fried. No problem after putting everything on this very exp electrical surge line reading duhicky. JC

Well, I have removed the TV's and they are both dead. Everything esle on the boat works great even the central vac which is plugged in the same outlet with the salon TV. So I guess I know what my new project on the boat is going to be. Any additional suggestions as to replacement ideas would be appreciated. JC where did you mount the surge protector? Was it for the whole boat or just the electrical appliances. I am going to add surge protectors for the new TV's while I am installing them.

Jack, It was just the electrical appliances. My tv is over the Refrigerator. Took it out, which was a pain, then put new Surge protector DuHicky behind old tv position above refrigerator. Had my little girl climb up and into hole(wall) and ran extension to Microwave. Took out Fried tv in staterooms and put Surgeprot there as well. Have not had any trouble sense. The surge protectors i bought had a line ok light that let me know if juice was good or not. Now several people at our dock have done the same thing. This was a year ago and everything including Satellite tv is running fine. Hope that helps. JC

Good luck. Please do post Pics. It will help somebody down the road. JC
