I wouldn't say it's "essential", but it's not a bad idea... as long as it's charged. Personally, I'd say if you had two batteries already on board, scrap the pack - save the space (and weight) for something else. I've used all types and brands of packs over the years - I don't think it matters too much.

i am just afraid of having the stereo on too long out in the lake and it not starting...i do have the 1 battery on while out in the lake and start it back up with the 2 batteries....do most people just start up the engine (or engines for some) to charge up again while out sitting for the day?

I always carry one. If I don't need it..(I have) someone else might. The 15 or 20 extra pounds are well worth it. I have mine plugged in to an outlet so while I'm on shore power or plugged in it always ready. I got mine @ Autozone, can't remember the brand but it is the HD model and it's yellow.

I have this on my boat. :smt001.

Definatly a good thing to have. And pluged in or charged up. You or a fellow boater may need a jump. Also if your on board charger craps out as mine did, you have a means of maintaining your batts. A freind of mine has an inverter built into his and we've caught a few ball games out on the sand bar this sum. ...Ron

I think they are a good thing to have but the 2 that I have owned crapped out & wouldn't hold a charge after a relatively short (1 yr or so) period.

Wayne.....good to have you back

As long as you leave the switch on #1 (for example) while you're using the radio, #2 will stay fresh (if you've charged it, of course). When you're ready to go, try starting on #1. If no go, switch to #2 (not both). If your switch is a "make-before-break" or you have the AFD (Alternator Field Disconnect) hooked up (if your model allows it), you may switch back to #1 to charge it after the engine starts. NEVER SWITCH THROUGH THE "OFF" POSITION UNLESS THE AFD IS HOOKED UP.

I believe it is a good thing to have but it also must be kept charged. Do not skimp, by a good one. I bought a cheapo from Menards and only used it a few times. It no longer charges and is worthless. Spend the money for a good one. It can be used around the house too, lawn mowers, cars etc.

Not to Hijack this thread !!. I was invited back by Jim. :smt038. Don't worry i'm ok now. :smt001. I just let my feelings get away from me on that thread. :smt021. And i'm SORRY for that !!!.

ok still not real sure what you are talking about ...presentation" ?
no worries

That first link is a battey charger not a booster pack. I can't get the second link to work.

shoot, ok thanks....it was the nautilus marine booster pack....retails for 169.00

I'd still go for this one. I've had it going on 2yrs and it still works. I like the built in lite it lights up the aft deck without blinding everyone. :smt001.
