A few years ago there was a comedy show and the guy came up with a word - "Sniglets" little words that mean other things. It has come to my attention we now have to such phrases.

Boating Dollars. Money exclusively stashed away from the wife for boating endeavors.

Smiles per Gallons. Regardless of cost, boating beats any day at the office.

Boat Tax. That amount of money paid to non boating burecrates bent on ruining your happiness.

Canbotes. Those aluminum beer cans wired together by rubber bands and captained by one day wonders.

Footitus. The itch to move up to the next size.

GoFast Push the lever just a little further forward.

Coasties Those guys that always bug you.

Oilburner Diesel boat.

Stinkpot Gas Boat

Soup (Fog) Stuff you can't see through.

You bought a "What" Wife is still on the floor.

Snailboater Only slightly more elevated than the canbote.

Yarditus Those that by pass footitus and go really big.

On the Hard It has two meanings. Those that don't know how to park boat in a slip properly and those who are having work done.

Boataholic Any one reading this thread.

"on the hook" Anchored

"splash" Put boat in the water

"fibereuphoria" The natural "high" you get when smelling fiberglass

Velcrumbs The unwanted crap that sticks to velcro (I wrote that one in the mid 80's.

Poleboarder
Term that a kitesurfer uses for windsurfers (like power vs sail boats)

Can any one think of a few more that are appropriate to our passion?

Owners of Corvettes refer to accessory prices as a Vette Tax.
Boat Tax would describe the mark up of marine items.
(Much the same as Boating Dollars)

I've heard a lot about that new mysterious brand of boat out there called WHAT............as in "You bought a What?"

I also wonder if What is a division of Brunswick :smt017

Why mess around with a foot... step up YARDITIS !

Rich Hall, "Not Necessarily the News." HBO. 1983.
Snailbloater, Blowboater - guy with a sailboat
GoFast (self explanatory)
Stinkpotter = what snailbloaters call us
Oil Burner = diesel
Coasties

On vhf a bunch of us refer to small fishing boats that block our way in and out of harbors by a name we picked up from one of the Men In Black movies. In five years one fisherman figured out who we were talking about. The reference is to a charactor's chin.

"on the hook" = anchored.... "splash"= put boat in the water ..."fibereuphoria"= the natural "high" you get when smelling fiberglass.(OK I made that one up  )

Richard, Maybe you should add an explanation or meaning next to the words when you update them in the beginning of the post so that everyone knows what they mean. Just a thought.

Blow Boats= Sailboats
Greenwater = Saltwater (may be PAC NW only- since you Southern boys have shiny Red Yellow or Clear blue)

Velcrumbs - The unwanted crap that sticks to velcro (I wrote that one in the mid 80's.

Poleboarder - Term that a kitesurfer uses for windsurfers (like power vs sail boats)

I use to love that segment. One favorite I can remember is "bagmosphere." It is the air trapped in the top of a potato chip bag when you open it and chips fly all over the place.

How about "Water Knats" more commonly known as Jetski's!

MPG - Miles Per Grin
GPH - Grins Per Hour
GPM - Grins Per Minute

Tupperware Navy - 2 or more boats traveling together with less than stellar brand reputation. (How's that for not brand bashing?)

Carbon Footprint - What you leave on the swimplatform of a diesel pushing boat.

Green House Gas - What results from farting while you pick out your garden plants...... :smt043
