Boating Laws

Oh yeah, I forgot one...or two

- Try to make permits for dredging simpler to obtain. This should also be true of the waste material you take out. I know alot of marinas that are drying up because the beaurocracy is so bad they cant get a permit or the cost is so prohibitive.

- When building parks or other recreation areas along/near waterways, consider a small dock or provide some ability for boaters to gain access to those facilities. there are sometimes restaurants / shops that I would love to get to, but cant despite their proximity.

thats all folks.........

Thank you all for your input, the ideas expressed are great.
We agree that less government is better, and easing rules that would allow for easier business expansion (whether boating, marina or other) is a great goal. She also understands the concept of if someone will go to the effort of taking and passing some of the excellent boating courses, then a reduction in yearly fees is a small cost compared to the increased safety on the water that would follow.
Now, as far as taking our farm animals off the boats.......

I don't live there anymore (originally from B'ham) but visit regularly.

How about reversing that stupid size restriction rule on Lake Martin and Weiss Lake? My cousin was going to buy a place at Martin and relocate his 34' Sundancer from Guntersville. When he found out about the 30' restriction he backed out of the deal. When he told me about it I thought he was joking.:smt101

I read the law and felt like I was reading an edict from the Spanish Inquisition.

Anyone familiar with this, do you think it will go thru?
The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has asked congress to authorize the Transportation Secretary to establish requirements for standards of proficiency for recreational boaters.

Boat Operator Certification.
http://www.usps.org/eddept/boc/main.htm

Background and Overview.
With the Boat Operator's Certification Program, USPS will certify USPS members at various levels of recreational boating proficiency. We expect that these certifications will be recognized across the boating community, both domestically and internationally. In the United States, The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has asked congress to authorize the Transportation Secretary to establish requirements for standards of proficiency for recreational boaters. We intend to have USPS certification accepted as the above proof and be accepted as the national certificate for the USA.

Give the boating industry a tax break.

You tax what you want less of. If you want to break their backs for good and send the jobs overseas then keep taxing the hell out of US businesses.

Perhaps government needs to cut back just like everyone else has? Raising taxes to compensate for less tax revenues makes the economy worse.
