Boating just got more expensive!

Our whole bill for a year is around 1200 a year for a 33’ boat.

Travel lift? HAHAHAHAHA! Wow, that made my day.

Seriously, no. There’s not enough volume at the yard for that kind of expense, and they can get the boats closer together without it. What they use is 2 custom made yard trailers with adjustable bunks - large and small. They trailers get moved around with a small repurposed aircraft tug. Boats get launched/hauled near high tide on the ramp next to the dock. They are then towed the the dock/mooring with one guy in a Boston Whaler workboat. Pics of my boat on the yard trailer below.

There are 2 travel lifts in the area at other yards when they are needed; those are much larger yards with on site mechanics with business to support the lifts. Using the local lift cost about $500 for a short haul (stays in the slings, no blocking).

Got it. Thanks for the pics and the explanation. Makes perfect sense.

That's cheap. For our 25' boat (charged for $28' due to swim platform and anchor) at $47/foot and electric we are paying just around $1600 for the season

Yikes, is your prop dragging in that 3rd pic? The balance on that trailer looks a little iffy too, those bunks are short! :)

I hope our rates don’t go up much for 2024. 2023 pricing is locked in. $Cad 4,395 per year for my slip that holds up to 40ft loa and includes for no extra fees
  • Spring Launch
  • Dockage
  • Dockside Water/2x30 Amp Electrical Outlets
  • Pump-Outs
  • Fall Lift Out
    Hull Power Wash
  • Blocking
  • Uncovered Winter Storage
  • Use of all Marina Amenities, which includes a pool and shower and washroom facilities.
The large slips for up to 60ft LOA are Cad6,995 per year.

Dragging? No. There was at least 2 inches of clearance.

Just kidding - it was more like 3 inches.

Yeah, the balance was close. I hopped up on the swim platform and it was a bit wiggly. But the engine is very heavy and was centered over the front set of wheels of the trailer.

You can (notice I didn’t say Y’All) see where I am, ours went from $4800 to $5390 for the year, everything included but no dock box and not covered. Since SH took over they have made the marina better, always free pump outs, renovated the heads, showers and rentable club house, gas at what they put it in the tanks for. They canceled Peir77’s service lease, they wouldn’t work on anything older than a 2005, created a new service department from the other SH marina across the lake. I’ve had good luck with them. Sticking around this year, I’m 15min from the boat so that’s a big plus. Downside, I’m at the very bottom of the lake, only close restaurant is Port City Club, fantastic place but everywhere else is 60+ minutes because of where we are. My .02
Jon

Thought I would throw in an edit, service department also “procured” a boat forklift rated at 25,000lbs since there isn’t a ramp they can use close by, getting ready for full drive(s) service so I’ll be putting that to the test, pictures included.

It is not love it is a sickness.
Ive had this slip for 15 years

That’s a real nice setup you have put together at the stern, @Joint Custody.
We’re berthed in the California Delta, amidst dozens and dozens, literally, of marinas. After reading this thread, I’m feeling pretty good about the fees here…! We just moved transferred to another marina due to increase. We have a 32’ slip (covered) for $340/mo, and after six months, it’ll drop to $300/mo.

So reading this, it has me thinking. I can get a slip at one of the better marinas on the Columbia River for $475 a month with water/electric and cover. But no yard for the pick up and trailer. So I would have to bring the trailer home, 70+ miles from the boat. Maybe just keeping it in the driveway would still be best. Being half way between PDX and the salt, I still have options.
Hey @JHornsby3, do you trailer your 300DA? What do you pull it with?

Yes she is on a trailer. I pull it with a 2004 Chevy K3500 DRW Crew cab long bed Duramax diesel with the Allison 1000 trans. Fully loaded it squats the pick up about an inch. About 13,600lbs after the rest of the crew gets their stuff in the boat.

It pulls it very nicely. But I'm going to add in the Water Mist Injection to help drop the EGT's a bit and at the same time, cut out the kitty and soot trap. The WMI will drop the EGT and coolant temps by quite a bit. I might set it up like my old pick up with a two stage system. 7gph main with a 4 to 6gph secondary. My old pick up I was able to drop a gear, turn on the primary nozzle, drop the coolant to below 200* then turn on the secondary and drop EGT from 900* to around 600* on a long pull in the hills. This time though, I'll pull a good fuel tank or such and mount it under the bed and cab like the fuel tank on the port side of the pick up. That should give me enough water for some good pulls.

For anyone thinking about changing to a Maryland marina from a non Maryland marina, don't forgot about the 5% state tax you will get dinged for. Don't ask me how I know this. However, the 5% tax is capped at $15,000. Something to keep in mind.

Newport, RI $275/foot plus $1250 for electricity $230 for water for 6 months. You pay per foot on whatever is longer...the boat or the slip.

NICE boat, curious, Why dont you use black bottom paint?

180/ft in Portsmouth Ri for a 40ft slip. We were never charged for electricity but this year its $200 for the season.

No pools or any amenities, Had nice bathrooms, but marina closed those to turn building into office, and brought in porta pots to use. Going backwards.

Yikes -- really?

At that rate might as well use the boat head.

Because black bottom paint with a blue hull isn’t pretty? I had black with my White Sea Ray and it looked good. I like the red bottom paint with the blue hull and white boot stripe. It looks good when running, too.

I've changed marinas. I was 19yrs at the previous one, a pinch over 2K for the year. At the new location I could have a 50' slip for 5K but it's on the busier fairway, didn't want that. I ended up in a 60' slip, cost 6K, but it has a pump out connection at my slip, they also layout my jammies and fluff my pillow at bedtime.:D
