Hello Fellow CSR folks,

Hope this message finds you well and feverishly preparing for an awesome boating season. I need some help and I'm hoping you all may have an answer or two. My two daughters, 24 and 16 want to take the boat safety class in order to operate our new PWC but they would prefer to take a traditional classroom course rather than something online. My trouble is that I can't find anything except online. Does anyone know of a classroom presentation in the Washington DC, Northern VA area??

Thanks all......be safe

I took the class from the USCG Auxillary as a refresher with a friend of mine who goes boating with me all the time. He wanted to take it so he could operate the boat too. We took the class at a High School in Bethesda around this time last year. I will look for the rep's name tonight when I get home. (As a side note, the teacher came out and did vessel saefty checks on the three boats and jetski on our pier afterward.)

Robin,

I was at the Chantilly boat show this past weekend and spoke to the Coast Guard Auxiliary people. They just had a course at Prince William Marina, and said they will be having more. I gave them my information and they are supposed to be contacting me. I'll let you know when that happens, and hopefully your daughter can sign up for their class.

Robin, a commercial alternative or augment to the Coast Guard Auxiliary courses is in Annapolis: http://www.annapolispowerboat.com/index.php. I sent my wife to their two-day weekend course a number of years ago for the same reasons you are facing and she got a lot out of it. The advantage is that they compress a lot into a couple of days if time availability is an issue.

I took the USCG course at PW marina. It was pretty detailed and in a classroom setting. They paid for it when I bought my boat but it cant be that expensive. You get a great book with the class and we had 3 instructors for a class of 15. They were very helpful. I took it in the evenings and it was 3 classes maybe.

The marinemax on long island new york is having one at the end of the month. I don't know if its just the local one or if its nationwide at all there locations. Worth a shot if you have one local. Find the number and givem a call
