Boating Accident * person missing with life jacket on?

That's horrible. We had a woman drown this summer from tubing...WITHOUT a life jacket. That I understand, but not with one. 12 years of pulling tubes and not one injury. Would be interested to know the details of how it played out.

I heard that the life jacket wasn't COAT GAURD APPROVED

Most accident fatalities where the person was wearing a life jacket occur because of the following:
hypothermia: the person falls into very cold water and becomes unconscious from hypothermia
trapped under the boat: Boat flips trapping someone under it or on sailboats they get trapped under the sail
jacket gets caught on something and they get dragged under: this usually happens in rivers or areas with lots of debris.
jacket doesn't fit right (too large) or isn't properly fastened.

These are unusual, and there are only a hand full of such fatalities a year.

The above case is very sad. Any time you lose a child it is tragic.
