Every year I look forward to our July stay in SW FL for the month to boat. It always amazes me how once we get on the water here the soul get's soothed so quickly. After some 40 years of boating from Maine to Florida, I still long for the SW FL waters. There is no place I've seen that is so majestic and inviting as this place, not to mention year round boating :smt038

Man, I can't wait to retire down here on a big ole diesel boat :smt089

We put in this past Friday and spent the weekend out and about. Tonight I'm on the hook in Lemon Bay, near Stump Pass. Other than the mosquitos out in force it's just glorious out here.

Chuck, there's a nice anchorage near Stump Pass we always head for when we go South. It's well protected on all sides and a no wake zone. Once you go under the South bridge from Lemon Bay, it's immediately on your right. We rode out a 3 day blow here one time and it was flat calm in 50Kt gusts (we were swinging like crazy though). We love boating along the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Pictures Chuck.....pictures.

I knew that would be coming...but that's where it falls apart. You see, this isn't about a single sense, what you see. It's about an amalgamation of all 5 senses coming together in a sureal way. The visual beauty, the smell of your surroundings, the warm winds, the sounds of the wildlife frolicking, and the taste of warm salt air in your mouth. Its the whole package that makes for an inexplicable serentity down here. Then there's the fact that you have a marina every mile, restaurants abound, private islands to explore, anchorage at every turn (with no rocks to run aground on, anywhere). It can only be experienced, not explained nor photographed. I've been coming here for 25 years now, and can't wait for the kids to finish schooling up North so the admiral and I can settle in down here.

That's just below the Tom Adams bridge. It backs into what we locals refer to as waterski alley. We were on the inlet on the south side of Stump Pass. There are just so many places to anchor up and be at peace down here. Just love it.
