Went to the boat today for the first time in a few weeks only to realize I was robbed. They stole my radar, gps and some rods/reels from the cabin. I spoke with head guy there and another boat also had their radar stolen on Wednesday. My wife and I walked the dock and many other boats have real nice set-ups intact. While doing so we noticed this young kid walking down the dock and scoping out some boats, he stood out, I snapped a couple of pictures of him just in case. I didn't want to ruffle feathers and ask him what he's doing their because I wasn't in the friendly mood. I filed a police report and they took some prints, doubtful I will find anything but I would like to find these scumbags. They left the cabin door open too, A/C must of been running the entire time.:smt013 hopefully the insurance will take care of it. On the bright side they didn't cut the cables which I thought was bit strange, definately took their time.

I hate scumbags. I hope they drown.

I agree man, its a crappy feeling.. I think they went by small boat/dingy. The eisenglass on the port side was unzipped and unbuttoned so I believe they went thru there.

I had my livelihood stolen from me before (construction tools). No worse feeling than having something you earned taken from you by someone not willing to work for it.
Works for current political atmosphere too.

Last guy I heard did something like that, was found with 2 cinderblocks on his ankles

We do have 24 hour guards at out marina, but there is 1 guy/12 hour shift and he must punch time clocks all over the 16 acre property. He is, therefore, frequently away from his guard shack which is positioned where he can see all the docks and most of the wet slip boats. All of the marina customers ask any stranger we see "Can I help you find something or someone ?". You don't have to be adversarial, but a friendly question offering to help the visitor find someone gets the message across that we know you are here and you are being observed. Most of the time the answer is "Thanks, just looking at all the pretty boats", or "I am supposed to meet XYZ at his boat, but I can't find it or he isn't here yet". On the rare occasion that we get a B.S. answer, we go find the guard and tell him about the visitor.........he is the one with the gun.

Are you at a Marina? What kind of security is there?

Perhaps it's time to ramp up security.

I'd bet that the scumbag will try to sell the units... hope you have serial numbers. It might not be that hard to find them (and the scumbag).

I've got zero tolerance for this kind of behavior, if we made the penalty stiffer, it would stop. You steal, we cut your arm off. Do it a second time and you hang.

That really sucks like stated watch CL, bay & hit the pawn shops they won't keep the items long their looking for quick cash. In this state pawn shops can't take in anything without a serial number that goes into a theft database & held for 30 days. Check with the officer that took your report to see if your state has a similar law. Pawn shops have to turn it over to you as long as there's a theft report.

Pure 100% scum.

That sucks.

Unfortunately bad stuff happens. At least they didn't cut the cables. Call insurance, buy a couple replacements and move on.

Scumbags will be scumbags.

There is security Thursday-Sunday (No idea why its not the whole week) I called and left a message for the cop last night to give the serial number that I have for the GPS, I am still looking for the others. I have been checking craigslist too, nothing as of yet.

Cop stated once the serial numbers are entered in the system the pawn shop will notify them and hold the customer until the police arrive. These people knew what they were doing, doubtful they goto a pawn shop.

That sucks. I dint know what your deductible is. Mine would not cover my entry level system.

If the market is that good for hot electronics, It would not surprise me to see an iPhone type security on electronics in the future.

before we bought our boat we visited a few marinas and was invited into a pretty large boat (probably about a 40'er. they had an alarm system on it. they said they had stuff stolen from it last year while at the marina. they don't have any security or cameras there. the marina we will be at this year is right next to the local police station and i think they can actually see the docks from inside their station so hopefully that will deter most thieves

Don't be surprised if they do pawn them crooks are dumber than door knobs.

I hate a thief and a vandal, I hope you recover your stuff or at least get made whole by your insurance. You still have the feeling of being violated though and takes some time to get over.

My marina is private but no security fences or guards. It's a small place, 75 slips, so its easy to get to know who belongs after a while. We had a great couple that managed the marina a few years ago, always at the marina, tending to every little detail. Occasionally we get people strolling in to look at boats (right past the private, no trespassing signs). One day the manager and I were sitting at a picnic table having a cold one and we see a person wonder in and start scoping boats. The male manager gets up and shouts, 'suse me, this is a PRIVATE marina, members and guests only, so which one are 'ya'? The guy just says, 'oh I didn't know'. To which the manager replies, 'are 'ya blind as well as illiterate? you walked right past the signs right there, big as life'! The guy just left and we never saw him after that. I was laughing so hard I almost spilled my drink.

We have had some theft but not very often, we've been fortunate I suppose.

Hull and equipment is 1160.00 and personal effects is 250.00 They really should have some sort of tracking device built in.

Be careful they don't come back for the new stuff your going to install. That was a scheme years ago they would steal your battery/ or tires and come back because they knew you would get new stuff.
friend here convinced me to install cameras/DVR which I did over the winter it records 24/7 and I can view it from anywhere on my phone. At least I will have an image to go by. Our "security" is not that reliable so you need to do your own security
when we move in a few weeks I will post a sign at the slip that the boat is under 24 hour surveillance. Just the thought will sometimes make them choose the next boat. Sorry to hear about your troubles it's a horrible feeling.

So now you can watch them take your stuff in real time and in color?

Mine was burglarized 3 years ago. Thief got 3 plasma tv's, surround sound systems, Playstation, other miscellaneous items, cut aft deck eisenglass, damaged aft salon doors and damaged interior high gloss teak getting his booty off the boat. Mine was the ninth boat of eleven at the yacht club he got into before he was caught. Plead guilty and went to rehabilitation for meth. He was living in a stolen car with girlfriend at a park next door and would arrive by a flat bottom to avoid locked gates. Added a security system and the company posted their signs on my dock and stickers on my Hatteras. Luckily no thefts since then.
