How many hours do marine transmissions last. I have a 1989 sea ray 30 sedan bridge. They both are running good but wonder what are their typical life spans?

If maintained properly and not abused they will last indefinitely. Mine are 30 years old, never rebuilt and still don't leak. Change the fluid every few years and don't be too aggressive shifting and they will last a loooong time.

Agree, but coolers can get fouled up and if they get clogged up you will have tranny trouble. I would pull the coolers and have a rad shop clean them. Being in freshwater, go enjoy for an other 25 years.

Thanks for that info. I think that is a question I would have asked also in the short term of things to come.

While we are on the subject: can a competent owner change transmission fluid/filter, or should it be done by a marine service?

It's a fairly easy job but you'll need a pump.
