Boat Trailer Brakes

Can't really give a time frame. It's like cars, you gotta have them checked. Trailers, in most states (maybe all, not sure), are covered under the state's motor vehicles laws and should be inspected every year.

Check them the same way you would on a car. Discs or drums? Hopefully they're discs since that's easier. Although, drums aren't really that hard.

Rumor has it, They rust out before wearing out.
But that wasn't the case with my trl.
Its the grease seals you really want to keep up on.

As needed. Sorry to sound glib, but that is the answer. You should check them at least twice a year. But the inspection should be thorough and include the hubs as well. I can't comment on someone in Ill. to go to, but it's not a difficult proposition. I guess my first question would be do you perform the brake service on your vehicle. If yes, then this will be very straight forward. If no, then you will probably be better off taking the trailer to the shop for inspection/service.
