I know I just got my 290DA, and I plan on enjoying it for the next 5-10 years, but looking to the future when the last kid will be out of the nest and its just the Admiral and I. Which boats show promise of good performance, value... etc.

Just tossing it out there for discussion....

What is gonna be "the" SeaRay to buy in 5-10 years.

Criteria:
Diesel
Twins
Bridge
40' +

What boats are being built now, or have been built in the past couple of years that have best combination of the mentioned criteria?

mmmm. I would hope than in 5 years the Honda Hydrogen cell engine is perfected or well on it's way. If something like it is developed for the marine industry it will revolutionize the boating world

I heard a rumor that there are boat companies (not Sea Ray) that are using the power of the wind to make the boat go.

Amazing, wind powered boats. What will they think of next.

That's preposterous! What are they thinking. How will you control the speed?
It's not like you can tell the wind to blow harder or softer. Does it have a tank to store the "wind"? I doubt it. What happens when you're out of wind?
To me it sounds like, if these catch on there will be harbors full of these "Wind boats" that are simply in the way

Dragon Anchor-

I know of a fine 2007 44DB that meets all your criteria (quite stunningly I might add) and might be for sale in 5 -10 years!

Shall we start the bidding?

I predict that in 5-10 years joy stick controlled Zeus drives with improved Seacore corrosion proof outdrives, direct injection low sulfur diesel engines returning >2mpg on Sundancer 290-340 will be pretty common. I also predict that computer controlled trim tabs will reduce roll and pitch underway. Boat hulls will move from fiberglass to light weight, high strength nanotechnology plastics that are currently showing up on waverunners. Satellite guidance will be common. You have a great boat, the 290DA. It is currently cutting edge with its highly efficient hull, fuel injected and powerful 5.0s, and asthetics you would have only dreamed of 10-15 years ago. Enjoy it for the next 5-10 years and watch the improvements in technology continue to make boating safer, more efficient, and reliable.

I've cured the "itis"... yep I said it. I'll have the new 280 until I move up to my retirement boat. Nordhavn 47. But then again my wife has vowed to pay off the new boat in 2 years. if so who knows??

It takes Mercury 5 to 10 years to get the bugs out of their new products -- after they unload them on unwitting customers. Look that the problems with their Bravos, their four stroke outboards, their optimax outboards, their late, unlamented sportjets, their water ingesting Gen VI V8s, need I continue? Maybe, by then, Zeus will be where the IPS is today. but I won't bet my dollars on it.

The Regal 4060 and 4460 the IPS drive available as an option. The 4080 does not yet have it available. Their new 5360 was designed for the IPS and should be more efficient.

Best regards,
Frank

No bidding untill I do atleast a preliminary walkthru... say BiH in June?

Are the antennae's (antenni?) straight?

I have looked at the Nordhavns, very impressive ships. Just not sure I am ready for trawler speeds :)

And that wind stuff.... thats just crazy talk there

I must be ahead of the loop here. My wife swears I have a Wind Presure Tank I can use on comand. Imagine some day that assisting me in docking. I can only dream of that day!.....

Wooooaaahh- If a ragboater eats beans could they actually power thier boat on a calm day. I feel good about this one. I'm calling a patent attourney.

It's all about particle acceleration. When you think of it on those terms, you realize that it wouldn't work.

Diesel
2 Cabins
Cockpit A/C
Zeus (I hope)

I hope you're not suggesting that people hoist Rags in the air in attempts to harness the wind and propel them............next you'll say that the earth is round and you can travel accross the 'flat' ocean and some how circumnavigate it........crazy talk! CRAZY I SAY!

I can't wait to see the stories of the IPS drives shearing off in our shallow waters. At least with an outdrive you have some protection from the skeg, the ability to kick up, and have the hydraulics absorb some of the shock. The leading edge on the IPS is the prop. Those benign bottoms hits with a Bravo that at worst curl the edge of the prop are going to be disasters for the IPS, no matter how great it seems.
