Boat Saved

Speaks to the marina culture that is a significant part of the boater's life that we all love. Very happy to hear you came out relatively unscathed.

Turns out my boat did scrape the boat on the south side of the dock. Their outboat engine cowling is scratched, as is about a foot the bow gel coat and 2 of the bow rail supports are bent. Seems like my anchor did most of the damage. I gave the boat owner my insurance policy number and will call them Monday (they weren't open Sat). Never had to make a boat insurance claim, any advise?

On the bright side I did get the vent cover reattached and took the boat out to check the running gear....everything checked out OK. Just before I closed everything up my stbd solenoid switch would not work....have to look at that later this coming week.

We are due another bad storm Tuesday, so i'm going to tie off to the dock pilings as well as the new dock cleats that the marina just installed.

I don't see how an act of God that broke your boat loose makes you or your insurance responsible for damage to another boat. If anyone's insurance should be paying it should be the marina whose dock cleat broke away.

When you sign the docs for the boat storage you agree to a "hold harmless" against the marina, pretty standard. In this case it would fall on each own policy. We had some of our neighbors move our boat over by Mikes so the barge would not block us in as we wanted to use it this weekend & when we got out into the channel found a very bad vibration, dove under to find a damaged starboard prop, lots of stuff in the water right now so be careful. Divers starting on Tuesday looking for & marking debris to be removed. Boy boating is fun! Mike, it is my understanding it would not be a claim against your insurance, but time will tell. We will be around Sunday & Monday as we will not have props, if you are down there stop & say hi.

I have been reading this thread and enjoyed and not enjoyed what I read. Didn't enjoy reading about the damage. Don't wish that on any one. I did enjoy reading about the dock mate. That seems to be for the most part a common thread with most boaters. Not all but most. I know at our marina I have had guys call/email or tell me in person that they heard something running on the boat. Or due to the low/high tide redid my lines. All of it good.
As for the insurance - Rockyranch is correct. I keep my boat on a military post. Our marina was moving the sale boat of a retired Colonel and the sling broke. His insurance paid. Post was held - hold harmless. Still was messy!!!!
Glad the boat and personnel are ok.
