Boat rear ended on the trailer.. Thoughts?

Get an attorney. That's why God invented them. They may compensate you for the loss of trailer use if it's insured, however you stated there was no tag on it so it may be excluded.
Good luck on the boat

User, I know exactly how you feel as it happened to me last year. I was on my way to the lake with my SR 210 Select in tow, I was stopped at a light, when all of a sudden I got rearended by a small truck (actually it wasn't his fault as he was hit by a lady driving a late model big Mercedes so she pushed him into me). Talking about being disgusted! Anyway, her car was totally demolished, evidently she wasn't paying attention and hit him pretty hard and he hadn't come to a full stop, that obviously magnified the accident as he also hit me pretty hard. Bottom line, repairs on my boat came to $8600. Obviously, I contacted my insurance company (Progressive) they handled everything very professionally and I didn't pay a penny out of pocket. Damage to my boat was extensive but all mechanical as the outdrive and transom unit took the brunt of the hit and both were totally destroyed, no structural damage to the hull transom though (not even a scratch) or any other part of the hull (except in the bow a couple of small gouges, when I got hit, the boat moved forward on the trailer against the winch post which knocked it completely off, this was actually a blessing as the forward movement helped lessened the overall impact). I also had some minor damage to the trailer (broken left light). I took the boat to my SR dealer they inspected the whole thing and did all the repairs (they took the engine out and thoroughly inspected the hull and transom). Everything was replaced brand new, my dealer did a great job and the boat looks and runs like brand new! Hopefully I won't go through that again although it's hard to get it out oF my mind every time I take the boat out, I'm always looking out of my side mirrors! Good luck with yours!

Okay it's all over!!! As to the last couple of posts advising me to go to my insurance co. The boat was a new purchase and wasn't insured yet!. With it being attached to my truck I had coverage for liability had I hit someone or the boat come off the trailer and damaged others property but as far as comprehensive I had none to come my property.

As to what happened! We faught and faught and I had to call the department of insurance and make a complaint and talk to the Supervisor and her boss to finally get some movement they were standing to their guns. Which in reality they wore me down a bit I ended up settleing for less that i should of but i was tired of dealing with it. Everything was checked for damage and alignment which the transom had no damage, the alignment was good. They replaced all the seals and such when removing the outdrive and reinstalling so I got some free maintance there. The tip of the fin on the outdrive was chipped off they sent it out and had it welded up and repainted. I am not happy with the final appearance of the repairs (wasnt sanded down fully still had grooves from grinding and paint has some runs) but strucuarlly it's good to go. I did get some money for the lack of appearance so I will sand it down and repaint it myself which will be okay. On the prop they sent it out and had it straightened not my choice but I have a new SS prop that will prolly end up on the boat so I didn't fight that terribly. They changed the gear lube when they pulled the outdrive so once again free maintance. Loss of use this was where we settled they were offering 3 days @300 a day but the boat was gone for much longer but their inspector stated the repairs should be able to be done in three days. Well sorry folks i'm not the only customer at the boat shop. Took 14 I let them out at 9 days. While all this was going on I had them look into the carb issue i've been having which is in another post well the boat shop took it upon themselves to run a compression check and found a sticking valve in cylinder #4 was the issue due to the exhaust needing to be replaced. So I took the boat home and took it to my car mechanic we pulled the head sent it out and had it rebuilt with all new valves, new exhaust and riser. So the boat is now fully repaired and I have been paid by statefarm. They suck for the record my overall review! Getting them to pay for damages is like pulling teeth. If I didn't come from a family who owns insurance agency's and knows the law concerning this which I had to fax them florida statutes I'd of never settled this. Moral of the story I got all the repairs the boat needed accident related and old maintance issues not preformed by previous owner. All was paid for and I still walked with a nice lump sum from loss of use. My advise to anyone in this situation STAND HARD ON YOUR GUNS and back it up with the law and you'll come out where you need to be!

As for my Sea Ray dealer (Marine Max) They were horrible my boat wasn't over 40 foot so they didn't want to mess with it much. It sat there for over 2 weeks and didn't get touched so I pulled in the parking lot hooked the trailer to my truck and left with it. No one said a word didn't even try and make sure it was my boat. Never called to tell me my boat had left nothing. It's also not like any of them had seen me or knew who I was. One guy had seen my face and he wasn't even there. I went to a local shop and overall was pleased with their service the sanding and painting didn't come out well but they did give me alot of information for free that really worked to my benifit and helped me with my repairs that were needed. I can't stand paying $95 an hour for labor so I either do it myself or take it to an off the clock Mechanic for much less. +1 on small shops they have a bit of compassion for the customer where the big box dealer doesn't.

Santa also brought me some gifts for the boat, a Garmin 440s and Smart Tabs so We'll be ready for next season in style!

Jeez, you would think they would at least wonder where the heck your boat went!

I hate to say it but my Marine Max sucks also. They are the worst service shop I have ever seen. Not only do they take forever to do anything, but there is always some kind of excuse they have for not having it done.

As for your boat....glad you got it fixed!!

If you want to have some early April 1st fun, call MM and ask them when your boat is going to be finished??

THAT'S a great idea...LOL! I'd give them a month or two and call them up asking about when my boat will be ready.

It's interesting that you guys have had that experience from MM. I get the same vibe from them too. My older boat is not something they're interested in working on. When I move up to a newer/larger Sea Ray it won't be through a MM dealer.
