I'm planning a Santee Copper trip this spring and I am looking for a boat ramp on Lake Marion, SC with safe parking etc to launch from. I will be traveling I-26 East from Columbia, SC. Any advice will be appreciated as this will be my first trip to the Santee Cooper.

Thanks,
Jason

Welcome to another 290 trailer boater !..and a dandy 290 it is. Hopefully someone with knowledge of that area will actually answer your question.

Jason,

Welcome aboard.

Lake Marion is better suited for canbotes and skiffs as it is relatively shallow and your Bravo IIIs will find a stump or two. I would recommend launching from the Diversion Canal at Canal Lakes Fish Camp. www.canallakesfishcamp.com. The launch ramp is far from perfect, but plenty of 280 and 290 DAs have been launched from this ramp and parking is plentiful. Four wheel drive is helpful, but with some finess it is not 100% necessary.

Once you launch head south along the diversion canal and stay between the markers on Moultrie until you reach the Pinnopolis Lock.

You are quite welcome. I live about 5 minutes from LHM.

The Cooper River trip is one of my favorite runs. We generally overnight at Charleston Harbor Marina. Although several other options are available. SR of Cola. generally does a trip or two each year. Several board members ran down the Cooper a couple of years ago. Try looking under the Carolinas section.
