Anything that makes the pier softer is a good idea to me!

Bill

You can get those at your local West Marine. Though they'll help cushion contact remember, don't approach the dock any faster than your willing to hit it.

And I thought that this was going to be another thread about which handgun to keep on board. Rats !

Bill,

Sure these will help. As I mentioned in the other thread I'm using comercial grade carpet on my first two pilings, so I don't mind using what they call "soft landing" and rub against them.

I installed a 6 foot unit at the rear of my slip on the face of the floating dock. These things are like pillows and protect my swim platform from accidental bumps and dings when backing in. If you put them on a piling I would make sure that you mount them high enough to keep them out of the water at high tide, these things will foul up pretty quick.

I Figure 2 big fenders for the swim platform against the dock...

Bill,

You can also use a fender board. That is just a plank that is hung from the side of the boat parallel to the water. Your fenders go between the board and the hull.

Henry

ill look into those also Henry...

Thanks.....:smt001

do you have a floating dock at the back of your slip ? if so one mounted horizontally at the center at the swim platform height will do. I have a 13 foot beam and one 6 foot "fender" is all I need. Don't forget that swim platforms are curved so only a small portion will come in contact with the dock face.

No.....just the dock, but there are 2 bumper strips on the rear pilings at each end of the swim platform.....
so maybe a fender just at the center of the platform for extra insurance....

Right.....got it.... Thanks...

Unless your fender piling are steel or something harder than your rub rail you don't need any protection. I routinely lay up against our wooden pilings and sometimes when it's really windy give them a good rap. This does absolutely no damage to the boat. I've seen some of these devices installed on pilings where they become so beat up that the screws holding them to the pile damage boats.
