Question on this topic.

What if your boat has never been named? We are going to name it in the next week for the first time even though it's a used boat and has never been named.

Ceremony or no ceremony?

what kind of celebration do you have in mind?

didn't do anything special for the naming of my first boat, but now in april we have our second to be named.

To appease the gods of the ocean, you MUST have a boat naming ceremony (plus it is great fun).

This is the ceremony I used. It is geared towards sailing boats, but since power boats evolved from sailing boats, this seemed appropriate. This ceremony also had two parts - denaming and naming - you only need to follow the second part. Have fun with your ceremony!!!!

Well, when you REname a boat, you are supposed to have a boat naming ceremony. I was wondering if anyone has ever had the ceremony when naming a boat for the first time.

Yes, I did it with my 1987 Bayliner 2150 aft cabin .. Summer Fun [sold ]
and with the 1984 16ft Bayliner cuddy ... Happy Ours [sold ]
and with the Sea Ray... Wayne' World

Its fun doing it with family & friends .

I think I am leaning towards doing it. If for nothing else, for the fun of it. I think my 2 girls (who will be 7 and 5 in May) will get a kick out of it.

They both LOVE and play Peter Pan with each other all the time, so I think we are leaning towards "Never Never Land".

It will mean something to them and us. A place where we can go as a family and be kids and not have to grow up for the time we are on the boat.

We did, bought her new and held a naming ceremony with friends and family. However, instead of breaking the champaign bottle over the bow, I just poured it on her.

Good tip! Seems a bit safer for the kiddies.

I just got my 290 recently. It's up on the hard right now doing pre-season maintenance. Before the re-launch we'll be toasting the new name and ownership... and I'll make up nice toast stating how fortunate we feel about having it and what the name means to us. Then it's a big CHEERS!
That's what we've done in the past... it's fun.
I say ceremony.
I agree, no smashing champagne on it... just cheers it or get it a little wet!

Again, if you read that link carefully, whether the boat is being REnamed or named for the first time, the naming part of the ceremony is the same. The link shows that there are two parts to a naming ceremony, again you don't need the first part since you are not removing an old boat name from Posedein's rolls, but you still need to introduce your boat to the sea faring Gods.

Again, have fun and make a great party out it.

Nick ... My mom is near you. Where do you boat?

Ron, Also buy a few little bottles of fake champagne for the kids.
It makes them feel like they're really doing it too.
Keep the camera near by.
