Is there any reason a used boat for sale would not already be named? Is this common?

Many boats are not named. I think a USCG documented vessel has to be named though.

You are correct sir! A documented boat must be named with lettering on the transom meeting USCG standards (I believe 8" lettering). The hailing port must also be shown, in 4" block lettering if it is a documented vessel.

If the boat is a repo, they often remove the name of the boat when listed for sale.
