I hate the name of my 340 express that was acquired about a month ago & would love to change it. So many say not to as it is bad luck. Has anyone changed the name of a newly purchased used boat ? whats the general consensus ?

Just so you know why I hate it, here it is.. "Nasssty Buoy" (exact spelling)

I would change it unreservedly but just in case, do a search and look for a renaming ritual as you are better safe than sorry. Nasssty Buoy, really? Jesus!

Rename it! There is no such thing as bad luck from renaming a boat. We renamed ours and we have had no problems at all (knock wood).

Hmmm. Come to think of it, we are having a lot of issues these days. :smt017

Change it!

Do the ritual for fun if you like...

also search the internet for ceremony.

Friscoboater here just renamed his boat, maybe he can help you.

How come the youtube links aren't showing in the thread?

Change the name. I've done it twice. Do the ritual though. I am not superstitious, but...

We changed the name of our previous boat and that was that. First weekend after name change, had two stupid things happen to me. I could blame me, or I could take the easy way out and blame the winds and Neptune. Did the ritual (which is fun and involves drinking) and didn't have a problem thereafter.

I didn't buy one I really liked because it was name "Wet Dream"
but had I purchased it I would not have been here either ....

In reviewing the USCG documentation on my boat, it's first name was also "Wet Dream". Ugggh. When we purchased it, it had been renamed. But then we went through the ritual and renamed it again. I'm not superstitious, but when it comes to the boat I'll take the necessary "precautions". Not to mention, we invited some friends and had a good time with it; then a day cruise that turned out beautifully!

Yes the ritual is very fun. Can't blame you for wanting to change it either. Mine was Liqiud Asset in big red letters. Problem was the ET in Assett was on the transom door. At the dock it wasn't pleasent when I would leave the transom door open. Definatley invite friends for the ritual.

Change it without hesitation.

We 'thought' we were going to like the name we gave our new boat. Almost no one got it and we decided we didn't like it as much as our old name. Now we're in the process of changing it back.

The real ritual is the crap you have to go through to get it redocumented. Also, the USCG is about 3 months behind and technically you should wait for your updated documentation before changing your graphics.
